Quick Quotes
Q. Cam, you got off to a very hot start and then had to -- Davis kind of surged a little bit there. In your mind how did the match go?
CAMERON YOUNG: Yeah, I mean, you obviously mentioned the start. I don't think I could have done a whole lot better on that front nine. I really didn't miss one.
Then he obviously is the kind of player that can go make -- can do the same thing to you, and he kind of started to, made the eagle putt on 12 -- made a 10-footer for par on 11, made a big putt on 12, and then had 14 feet or something on 13 for eagle.
I wasn't planning to hit driver, but when he hit it close, I was like, okay, I guess I have to.
But yeah, the whole time fully expect him to make a bunch of putts, which he did, and I just got off to too good of a start for him to catch up, but he was trying.
Q. 13 is kind of one of those match play situations?
CAMERON YOUNG: Yeah, exactly. I had driver out hoping I would make him get aggressive with it, planning to hit 4-iron the whole time, and then he hit driver close, and I was like, okay, I guess I've got to hit driver, which was not the plan at all.
But I felt like a good decision in the moment, just a bad shot.
Q. What was the best part of your game today?
CAMERON YOUNG: I think I putted really well. Obviously I did a lot of things well early, but I just think I hit a bunch of really good putts today. I did well at some of the stuff I've been working on, and just all in all, I feel like I just kept playing one hole at a time and kept trying to give myself opportunities.
Q. Paul Tesori told me that you guys started working on AimPoint Express.
CAMERON YOUNG: Yeah.
Q. Obviously it's his first week.
CAMERON YOUNG: Yeah.
Q. You guys were kind of working on it a couple weeks ago. He told me that you're --
CAMERON YOUNG: Yeah, Paul and I weren't working on it together a few weeks ago, but I've been working on it with my dad for a few weeks. My dad and I have started the last few weeks trying it. Yeah, I feel like I've picked it up okay, pretty quickly. I'm not necessarily super confident in my own ability, but knowing that Paul has got some experience is really helpful just trusting some of those reads, and there's still a lot of feel involved, and I'm just really scratching the surface of learning it.
It's something I'm definitely going to give some time to and see just kind of how it changes what putts look like to me and just see how it goes.
Q. Was there a reason that you wanted to learn AimPoint Express?
CAMERON YOUNG: I just feel like I haven't putted great, so just giving myself a little different thought process might trigger something to kind of help me there, and so far I think it's really given me some confidence to just pick a line and hit a good putt with good speed.
Today obviously a bunch of them went in, which doesn't have to happen, but I think it's a nice start for it.
Q. How did the first competitive round with Paul on the bag go?
CAMERON YOUNG: It was great. I've obviously been around him a lot. Webb and I played a practice round together 22 times this past year, so I've been around him a ton, so it's really comfortable. I think he just brings a ton of energy, which is good for me. I'm kind of pretty flat-lined. But it's been great so far. Obviously did well today, so I'm excited for the rest of the week.
Q. What was maybe one big thing he brought today that you thought was like wow, that was awesome?
CAMERON YOUNG: I think just kind of the plan we've created. We went through it this morning before I even went in to see the trainer. I think just a little bit more clarity on some strategy.
We're still in an interesting stage because he's still asking a lot of questions, and I'm still explaining a lot more than I probably would. So we're both just in a learning phase, and I think it'll come together really quick.
Q. How big was it that you guys have spent a lot of time together, that it was able to come together quicker --
CAMERON YOUNG: It just makes it really comfortable personally. We've been together enough to just have whatever random conversations out there. It's just really easy personality-wise, and I think just generally hanging out together has made it a lot easier knowing that we've played a million holes together, even if he wasn't carrying my own bag.
Q. Are you going to get him to slow down his walk?
CAMERON YOUNG: I don't think so. I'm just trying to keep up with him out there. He's definitely fast-paced, and I'm really enjoying the energy he brings.
