Quick Quotes
Q. Kind of had a big smile there at the end. What was that all about?
COLLIN MORIKAWA: You know, when you're hitting putts to like four, five feet for birdie or eagle, you're not really smiling too much. You're kind of banging yourself in the head.
Thankfully I was able to make those four-footers, five-footers, come-backers for par. Just got to get the speed down.
But other than that, everything else felt pretty good.
Q. What was the best part of your game today?
COLLIN MORIKAWA: I think I drove it pretty well, and irons feel really good. I hit some really close irons shots. Missed a couple pretty bad, but I'm not too worried just because you're going to hit some bad shots here and there, and hopefully we got a lot of them out of the way today and start making a few more birdies tomorrow.
Q. What was maybe the cause of being off a little?
COLLIN MORIKAWA: I think just get out of my head. It's tough to do, it really is, especially when you're working on certain things and you try and make things a little too complicated.
But it was nice to see the short ones at least go in, knowing that if I do have these putts that are going in center cups or we're hitting our lines, just got to get the speed a little more dialed.
Q. Is it a big thing to win on day one or do we overblow that a little bit?
COLLIN MORIKAWA: No, I think it's a huge positive momentum, positive confidence going in. Obviously ideally you'd win all three, but you've got to start somewhere, and it's nice to get one point on the board early on and move on from there and hopefully just keep trekking along.
