Quick Quotes
Q. 5-under par. Tied for the lead. What was working so well for you out there?
ADAM SCHENK: Just putted really well. Fortunate on the last hole. I hit a bunker shot that hit the pin. Probably going to go eight feet by and ended up only four feet or six feet, whatever it was. So some good fortune, some good golf. Not a lot could have gone that much better. So it's one those rounds that could have been 1-, 2-under par that ended up 5-under par. You take the days like this and run with them.
Q. This is your fifth start and this is your low round. What have you learned playing here in the past?
ADAM SCHENK: That's a good question. Left on 10's terrible. I keep hitting it left on 10. I need to stop doing that. Just learning some spots where to be and where not to be. This is my fifth or sixth time here, not sure how many, but learning where to miss the ball. Like on hole 2 I was able to take advantage of the wind today and add a 2-iron before the round started. And we had ended up going really far, didn't have to push it up there with driver or 3-wood, had 60 degree in still. So made a nice birdie there.
Just some subtle things about knowing how the course is going to play. Just judged on the wind and we can set up our clubs before the round.
Q. Does it give you a little more confidence and feel comfortable, more comfortable approaching this tournament now that you got this first round under your belt going forward?
ADAM SCHENK: Definitely does. When you can get low round and be around the lead after the first round or you shoot something in the 64, 65, 66, that gives you a chance the rest of the week. Obviously if you can pair another one of those with it -- and if you have a struggle round if you can keep that around par or 1-under that would be great. But having a round like this first definitely, obviously, it sets you up for rest of the week.
Q. Especially playing late, right?
ADAM SCHENK: Yeah, I'm guessing we got a little bit of the good wave. It was still pretty windy most of round, but like the last 7 or 8 holes really calmed down for us. I think it's supposed to blow maybe a little more tomorrow afternoon.
Q. You were mentioning the amount of tournaments you played and the things that are coming up and the reasons why you played so many in a row.
ADAM SCHENK: Yeah, I mean, I missed the -- I made a lot of cuts this year, but the cuts I missed I went home and spent three and a half days at home. So it's a little bit of a quick turnaround, but it's nice to go home and see the family and sleep in your own bed and see my dog, Bunker, and before long seeing our son, my son. So life's going to change soon, so I would love to spend as much time with my wife as I can after he's born.
Q. Obviously when that happens that's the reason you're playing a lot now, so that you have the time to do that?
ADAM SCHENK: It is, yes. Generally, I play a lot anyway, but I would have taken a week or two off. But I mean, you don't have to put in a ton of work on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, just nine holes. So you can -- like I didn't feel overly prepared for this week. We had a really quick practice on Thursday or Tuesday then Wednesday was nine holes, so not a lot. So I felt maybe almost a little rusty going into the week. I don't think I touched a club for three days before. But a little time off sometimes is what the doctor ordered.
Q. Can you share when the baby is due?
ADAM SCHENK: April 20th.
Q. So life will change.
ADAM SCHENK: Yeah, coming soon.
