Quick Quotes
Q. Solid opening round. What did you like about your opening round especially?
SAM BURNS: Yeah, I think this golf course can be tricky, and a little bit of wind today just kind of makes you uncomfortable on a few shots. So I was able to hit a lot of quality shots out there. I didn't finish the way that I wanted, but overall a solid round.
Q. They were mentioning on the play by play on the radio you had spent a few weeks looking for a driver. How difficult a journey is that? And where are you in that process?
SAM BURNS: Yeah, I've found one that I really like now. Unfortunately, I had one that the USGA failed, and let's see, that was at L.A.
So that was a tough couple weeks, trying to figure out something I like. You come out here and you need something you're comfortable with, especially when the wind starts blowing. So I shouldn't really have that for a couple weeks, but now I found something I really love, and so I'm excited.
Q. Same model as you were playing?
SAM BURNS: Different model.
Q. Are you in the new Callaway?
SAM BURNS: Yeah. Yeah.
Q. Did the other one, did the face just thin out over time?
SAM BURNS: Yeah. I guess. They said it failed by one point. So I don't really know what that means. Not a lot of transparency there. But, yeah, the new one's really good.
Q. I heard you mention over here you're trying to be easier on yourself on the golf course. How do you do that?
SAM BURNS: Well, I think I feel like in the last couple weeks just kind of harping on shots in the past and really just trying to go out there and kind of be where my feet are. And if I hit a bad shot it is what it is. Trying to go out there and enjoy it.
Q. They talked a lot about three-peat for you coming back here. Have you thought about that at all? Have you looked at how rare that is?
SAM BURNS: Not really, to be honest. I think for me it's just trying to put together a solid week and a lot of winning is out of my control. So I just try to go out there and play the best that I can and add it up at the end.
Q. How comfortable do you feel out there on this course having won twice already?
SAM BURNS: Yeah, I mean it's obviously nice to be back here on the golf course I played well at and so a lot of good memories and just go from here.
Q. What did you feel you did best today?
SAM BURNS: Hit my irons really well. I think that was probably what I did best.
