Pregame Press Conference
Q. Do you like getting the U.S. right off the bat, or would you prefer to wrap up the pool play with them? How do you think it would shake out best?
DREW SPENCER: I love to compete. I'd take them any game. It's great. It's exciting to start with this matchup and all the excitement, to have everybody here excited about the World Baseball Classic, and we get the marquee game. It's exciting.
Q. The question was, in your opinion how does it feel to see a stadium that is full of Mexicans and Colombia that won in the ninth. What is your opinion on the game of Colombia versus Mexico.
DREW SPENCER: I think it shows what tournament baseball is about. Anything can happen. It's a team sport. And you can come in with all kinds of expectations about what team A or team B are going to do.
But as you can see upsets are possible, especially the first night. So it's exciting to see the tournament kick off with a result that maybe some people in the room weren't expecting.
Q. Do you think that one of the GB strengths is the fact that a lot of the players may be unknown to some of the guys, you're a little harder to scout?
DREW SPENCER: Yeah, I don't know if I'd call it a strength but it's certainly a point involved in strategy because I think when you are an underdog, then mystery is one of the things that you have to play with. And so we enjoy being a little bit mysterious.
I think probably this Great Britain team is one that's a little bit easier to scout compared to maybe ones we've had in the past because there are a few more recognizable names. But what's exciting, we're the underdog. We're unknown. This is our first time here. And it's a chance to put our country, our program on the world stage.
Q. I was checking to see who was the starting pitcher tonight, and do you have one for tomorrow night?
DREW SPENCER: Vance is starting tonight. And we're not announcing tomorrow's starter.
