Quick Quotes
Q. Can you talk us through how you finished up last night and then coming out this morning?
BRENDON TODD: So I was swinging really well yesterday. Came out firing with a great 5-iron at No. 2. Made eagle. Really striped it the next few holes as well. Had some trouble with distance control there in the middle of the front nine with the winds blowing. But it was nice to get 4-, 5-under I guess before the siren blew last night.
Was able to come out this morning and make a couple more putts. Birdie 13 and 14. I had looks there on 16 and 18. Would have been nice to get one of those as well.
Q. What happened on the putt on 17? Looked like a 3-footer. On 17 for par.
BRENDON TODD: Today?
Q. Yeah. Today.
BRENDON TODD: I made it. I hope I made it. I remember making it. Yeah, I had three feet up the hill. It went in. Right in the middle.
Q. We talked yesterday about your short game and stuff. What went on this week to give you a lot of confidence going forward with that and obviously it paid off this week?
BRENDON TODD: Yeah, I made a couple good adjustments last week in my short game. I got my shoulders moving a little bit more in my chipping. Which is always good chipping out of rough, it give you a little more energy to get the ball to the hole. Especially on soft greens.
Then with the putter just a little more flex in the knees. I feel like I was rolling the ball right down the line. I was seeing the reads probably the best I've ever seen them on poa annua greens this week. Which is a lot of fun because poa annua is probably the trickiest surface especially when they're wet and bumpy. So it was just all-around awesome week with my short game.
I wish I would have hit it a little bit better because I think I could have been right there with Justin.
Q. Is there something in your swing, a small like tweak that might help?
BRENDON TODD: Yeah, I mean, I think that I know exactly what it is. It's just probably a matter of rest, a little bit of practice and get down there in Phoenix in some nice weather and hopefully knock down some flags.
Q. When you have a Monday finish, it's almost, it's a wholly-different atmosphere. Almost serene. Do you prefer that?
BRENDON TODD: Well, I won a Monday finish in Mayakoba Mexico. I felt really good this morning. So there's something nice about knowing when you start your final round that you might not finish it. So you play as hard as you can until the siren goes off. You get to go sleep, rewarm-up, make the adjustments you need and come out firing.
That's what I did. I just didn't really have a great warm-up this morning to give myself quite as many looks coming in today as I would have liked.
Q. Off the tee on 18 what was the thinking?
BRENDON TODD: I hit a great drive Saturday morning. We had -- it was down wind off the left. I started out over the ocean, hit it way down there. Only had 220 in.
Today we didn't have quite as much help. So I don't want to aim too far left, especially with the three pulls I had already hit. But same goal. You aim left of the tree at the hedge and you rip it. That's what I did. The ball faded to the middle of the tree and got knocked down. If it misses the tree I'm hitting 5-wood in, it would have been amazing.
