AT&T PEBBLE BEACH PRO-AM

February 6, 2023

Brandon Wu

Pebble Beach, California, USA

Pebble Beach Golf Links

Quick Quotes

Q. How would you characterize the week overall?

BRANDON WU: I think it was awesome. It was a great pleasure playing with Condoleezza for three rounds. I'm glad the weather kind of held off and we finished with a perfect morning this morning. So I'm really happy to be out here and happy with how I played.

Q. This equals your best finish on the PGA TOUR. How much confidence does that give you as we continue along in the season?

BRANDON WU: I think I hit it really well this week which was helpful. I think I only missed one green this final round. Just kind of being in good spots and then giving yourself a chance with a couple looks here and there. Just tried to keep it stress-free as possible. Yeah, I love playing here at Pebble and it was an awesome week.

Q. Are you starting to feel more comfortable out here each week?

BRANDON WU: Yeah, a hundred percent. I think as I get a little bit more experience, kind of being in one of those final groups and playing a final round where you might have a chance, I think, yeah, just getting a little bit more used to it, a little bit more comfortable. I think that will just help me grow as a player.

Q. In your mind what makes Pebble sort of a unique challenge? Beyond the setting. Justin was talking yesterday about the angles and the slopes. Without getting too deep into the X's and O's curious -- seems like long hitters, short hitters, it challenges all different parts of your game. How would you view that?

BRANDON WU: A hundred percent. I think the greens are really small at Pebble. I remember they did a statistic on the 2019 U.S. Open versus 2020 at Winged Foot and the greens are about half the size.

And then there's some shots where distance doesn't matter. For example, 8. You can only hit it so far. Everyone's going to have 7, 8-iron into a pretty small green from an elevated spot. So I think that's how it makes it unique for everyone. There's a lot of slope on the greens too. So you got to make some putts.

Q. Seemed like that was evident in your group too. Joe hits it pretty far, but you guys were all scoring pretty well.

BRANDON WU: A hundred percent. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I just tried to -- Joe's hitting it probably 40, 50 by me all day. So I just tried to keep my head down.

Q. The women come here for the first time in July for the U.S. Women's Open. Seems like logically it would be a good fit. Because, like you said, power helps, but it's not a prerequisite, right? Accuracy matters too. How do you view this stage for the women?

BRANDON WU: I think Pebble's a great test for any type of golfer. So I think it will be awesome when they come. One of my good friends Andrea Lee I think is really looking forward to playing and I think they will have a blast.

Q. For the first time you don't have to contend with wind. How did the course play? Was it different this morning?

BRANDON WU: Today the scoring, like conditions for scoring were pretty much perfect. It wasn't very breezy, still pretty soft from the rain all week. The greens had been rolled so they were pretty pure. So, yeah, it was awesome. You had to take advantage, for sure, this morning.
