AUSTRALIAN OPEN

January 27, 2023

Magda Linette

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

Press Conference

A. SABALENKA/M. Linette

7-6, 6-2

THE MODERATOR: Magda, bad luck tonight. How proud are you of your achievements of the past fortnight here in Melbourne?

MAGDA LINETTE: Yeah, you always think you want to win. It's tough when you feel like you had a little bit of a lead in the first set. Of course, it doesn't mean I would win. It's always nice if you can lead and have one break to still win a set.

I'm definitely going to think a little bit about it. But I didn't feel I did too much wrong. She played really well. I thought the level was very high of this match.

I'm just proud that I could keep the level for so long and still come out today, tonight, on such a big occasion and feel I belong here and I still played my tennis.

THE MODERATOR: Anything you would do differently in the match tonight?

MAGDA LINETTE: Not too much. Really, it's like point here and point there. That's what we actually already spoke a little bit with my coach is that it's so nice that we actually said, Maybe on this point I could have done this a little bit different. That means we are really on a good track, like we have a really good structure of what I'm going to do on the court. Just a little bit one point here, one point there.

That's somewhere you want to be as a tennis player. We are really happy it's working and just the beginning.

THE MODERATOR: What do you think this result means in the arc of your career? What sort of confidence will you take from it?

MAGDA LINETTE: Plenty really. I still don't know how I'm going to maybe realize what just happened in like a week or two.

But it's really been so rewarding for all the hard work that we've done, for all the sacrifices, all these years on tour, so many Grand Slams. It was my 30th attempt. It's really rewarding because I really needed more than couple tries.

THE MODERATOR: What's next for you?

MAGDA LINETTE: I will definitely need some rest, then we'll go back on court and practice. We have another tournament, I think it's Mexico, then U.S.
