Quick Quotes
THE MODERATOR: Team Korda, thank you for joining us at the PNC Championship. Can each of you just open with your thoughts on being back here this week.
NELLY KORDA: Yeah, it was so special to be here last year, made some really great memories. When we got invited this year, we were over the moon we could come back and play this event and make some more memories together.
PETR KORDA: I mean, she said it. I don't know what I can add to it.
Q. When you come back here, what do you look forward to the most? Is there someone you look forward to seeing the most, or the golf course?
PETR KORDA: I think spending the time with the family, because we hopefully will have a family reunion Sunday, because we have not seen each other since Jess's wedding. We've been maybe just 48 hours in New York.
So it's kind of family reunion, maybe Saturday night. So 24 hours together, it will be very special.
NELLY KORDA: And then leading into the next week we'll all be together too, which will be special.
Q. (Off microphone)?
NELLY KORDA: I'm super excited. I think it will be really cool. I don't think I've ever actually seen Jordan play in person. So I think for me it will be a really cool experience because in a way he's someone I've looked up to growing up. So many of the guys here I've looked up to growing up.
For me, I'm going to geek out a little watching him, especially on the greens. Yeah, I'm super excited.
Q. (Off microphone)?
NELLY KORDA: My dad's been hitting it really good. He's been grinding for the past month. I told him he needs to. But I think everyone needs to swing it the way they want to swing it.
PETR KORDA: We'll have to swing like Jordan probably because --
NELLY KORDA: We're playing long.
PETR KORDA: -- we're playing really long, we'll have a lot of 5- and 6-irons. That's something, if we swing like him, maybe we can get to the 8.
NELLY KORDA: We can reach the par-5s in two hopefully. Fingers crossed, guys.
PETR KORDA: 6 and 7. 6, 7, 5 will be challenging, especially for me.
Q. I know you've been busy. Have you been able to play together that much in preparation?
NELLY KORDA: Honestly, we went out for three holes, and that's it. But, no, not at all.
PETR KORDA: I walked a lot of holes with her the last few weeks at her tournaments.
NELLY KORDA: Yeah, and I was asking what he's doing out here, like why isn't he hitting the range, putting?
Q. What was your biggest takeaway from playing last week?
NELLY KORDA: Last week? Honestly, for me it was just so much fun. Denny was such a great partner. I couldn't have asked for a better partner. Such a nice, genuine guy to make my first experience really cool.
I played with Max and Kisner the first day, and I was so impressed with how straight they hit it and the compression that Max has through the ball. And with Denny, I was just super impressed with the way he handled himself on the green. I mean, he rolls his rock. Like, it's really impressive.
And for me, also what I took away is how friendly all the guys are. They'll talk about the shots that they have hit walking to the green. You don't really so that too much on our Tour. But you can tell like they're all really good buddies. And it was really eye opening just to see that just because I don't live on that side of Florida, and they do this obviously, they see each other a lot. And Jess spends a lot of time there, but more me, it was kind of my first time meeting these guys, and it was really cool.
Q. Do you remember the first time you beat your dad?
NELLY KORDA: I don't know, but I got five dollars.
Q. Do you remember it, Petr?
PETR KORDA: I do, but if -- I mean, whatever we do, we always play for something. Probably I'm donating right now. And I'm not getting any shots neither from her, neither from Jess.
NELLY KORDA: He's good. He shoots around even par. He is still like -- he almost beat me a year ago, and I was like, oh, my God.
PETR KORDA: I don't know, I played this year six, seven times, I'm happy what I'm doing. Sometimes it's not that easy, but, you know, the girls doesn't want to give me any shots.
NELLY KORDA: No.
PETR KORDA: When I take them on the tennis court, I can give them some --
NELLY KORDA: We suck. Our tennis game is so bad compared to your golf swing.
PETR KORDA: I come home in the night with a nice advantage, I can a little bit compete with them on the golf course. But when we get on the tennis court, I feel good.
NELLY KORDA: I think his game plan is always to try to get in our heads on the golf course.
PETR KORDA: Hey, whatever it will take.
NELLY KORDA: Mind games.
PETR KORDA: I need to have a little bit advantage.
Q. Last year here you got to meet Tiger. Touching on that, Kisner said last week that he called you the Tiger Woods of LPGA. Comment on that?
NELLY KORDA: I mean, I would definitely love to have the amount of wins and majors he has. Yeah, I mean, it's been really cool to see the kind of feedback that I've gotten from the guys. They should come out to an LPGA event and watch all the girls play out there because they'll be equally impressed with everyone out there.
Yeah, last year was a dream for me. I got to meet Tiger, got to take a picture with him, my idol growing up. And this year, yeah, I mean, I'll get to play with Jordan for the first time. So every year I get a nice sweet treat from this event.
PETR KORDA: Christmas present.
NELLY KORDA: Nice sweet Christmas present from this event, and it's been fun.
Q. When you were talking earlier about the whole family being together, is that just your immediate family or extended?
NELLY KORDA: No, that's just my brother and sister. Like all of us. We did see each other in New York when my brother played the U.S. Open, but it was very brief. It's hard to spend time together when he's competing. You don't really see him much.
PETR KORDA: We spent nearly 40 hours together in New York.
NELLY KORDA: It wasn't that much. Out of that 40 hours, I probably saw him for like 2 or 3. So he'll come Sunday, and then we'll all get to spend time together next week before he leaves to Australia.
Q. I remember last year (indiscernible). What did you take from that, and what do you hope to get this time (indiscernible)?
PETR KORDA: I read his book, you know. It's phenomenal. I love that. Great book.
NELLY KORDA: How good he hit in? Holy. He hit the ball on a string last year when we played with him. They're just a really fun pair, really sweet. And, I mean, we couldn't have -- we've had such a great time at this event, and every pairing that we had, even the next day we played with Lee Trevino on Sunday, and that was amazing too. I mean, he's full of one-liners. I really enjoyed that.
Q. He actually played (indiscernible)?
NELLY KORDA: Crazy. It's impressive.
Q. (Off microphone.)
NELLY KORDA: Hopefully. We'll see.
PETR KORDA: We start our streak last year. So hopefully -- we have some few more.
NELLY KORDA: I told Dad he has ten more years and he can move up a tee box. That's when we can start competing with these guys. Ten more years.
PETR KORDA: Yesterday I felt I got a Christmas present because they moved me to the box number 3. Today they said, oh, back again. And, you know, like it's very weird, but what can I do? Maybe in the future I can get finally some nice present to be a little bit in the front.
NELLY KORDA: Ten more years. It's okay.
PETR KORDA: I'll wait.
NELLY KORDA: You'll get that present.
