Quick Quotes
Q. 4-under for the first round here, how do you reflect on that?
PAUL WARING: Obviously it's not an easy golf course this year. The setup is a bit more testing and the flags are a bit more tucked. They have really introduced -- kind of taken a side out of play. There are certain places you just can't hit it, and felt like I did it really well today.
There are certain elements where I just wasn't hitting it close enough but again, long-range putting was find so I was 2-putting a lot of times, walking off the tee with pars and I managed to pick up a couple of shots on the way in. Really solid start to the week in relatively testing conditions.
Q. Obviously kicking off the event and teeing off first, nice way to kick off the week, obviously fresh golf course; how key was that this morning?
PAUL WARING: The greens were fantastic this morning. They always are here, though. I must say, as well. I think it's the best condition I've seen it in the few years I've seen it, but it's definitely the best I've seen it and it is nice to be first group out. You can play at your pace. Both me and Haotong Li play at a relatively quick pace anyway and it suits us. We can keep the momentum going, which I did really well.
Q. Been a couple years since you were at the season-ending event. How nice is it to be here to be here, showing your consistency for this year?
PAUL WARING: It's always a pro for every pro on this tour to make the Tour Championship. I started off pretty poorly this season in total honesty.
But from June I played great. I've had four Top 10s since June, a couple of second and been playing some really consistent golf. So it was nice to get over the line in Nedbank last week, finished top 20 there, so secured a spot.
Yeah, very proud of myself to get to this stage. Hopefully we can keep going this week and climb even higher in the rankings.
