THE MODERATOR: Marketa, you started down in the first set. Then all of a sudden you took the lead and you were unstoppable. Did you feel like that, that it was your day?

MARKETA VONDROUSOVA: I mean, I knew she's a great player, so I was just staying focused on every point I could. I think I played great match. You know, it was very tough because she was fighting till the end.

THE MODERATOR: Were you surprised with your own level, given that you haven't been playing that much?

MARKETA VONDROUSOVA: Yeah, I mean, I played great the week before, but, you know, this is another level. So, you know, I think I was surprised. I think I played really great. I think I served also really well, and I think she's a very tough player to play. You have to stay focused like every point.

So, yeah, I'm just happy with the level I played.

THE MODERATOR: When did the captain confirm that you were going to be playing this singles? How did you receive that news?

MARKETA VONDROUSOVA: I mean, I'm always very happy to represent. So, you know, I love these events. It's a pleasure for me to play.

You know, I always play good these matches, so it's very nice, you know, to be back at this level.

THE MODERATOR: When did the captain tell you that you were playing? Yesterday, today?

MARKETA VONDROUSOVA: Yeah, he told us like yesterday at midnight (smiling). So, you know, I had good sleep and I felt good, so it's fine.

Q. I believe you have won your last 18 sets playing for your country. What is it about the event and playing for your country that brings out the best in your tennis?

MARKETA VONDROUSOVA: I don't know. I just, you know, I just feel good around my team and around the people. So I'm just really enjoying the game, you know, and, yeah, it's a great feeling, you know, to represent and to play such a big event for your country.

Yeah, I just enjoy it since I was a junior, so it's perfect for me.
