Quick Quotes
Q. Okay, here with Allisen Corpuz after her second round of the Pelican Women's Championship. How have you found the course these past two days? In relationship to your game, what's going well for you out here and what's hard for you?
ALLISEN CORPUZ: Yeah, I think I always just really like Florida courses. Just the course design and the course is just in such great shape, especially with how much rain they had.
It's been a little on the longer side for me with how wet the course has been. I think there is definitely a lot of opportunities and a couple shorter holes to make birdie on.
Yeah, just been putting well this week, so that's been really nice.
Q. How satisfying was it for you after your round today to see your name up at the top of the leaderboard, and what does that mean for you going into tomorrow?
ALLISEN CORPUZ: Yeah, I think it's always really good to see yourself up there. I mean, really just had a good year so far and kind of want to end the season on a good note. Trying to put myself in position for tomorrow, and, yeah really happy that I can be where I am.
Q. And with just 18 holes left, does that change your strategy at all?
ALLISEN CORPUZ: Not really. Really just trying to go out there and make a bunch of birdies tomorrow as well, and hope to keep playing the way that I have been.
Q. What have you learned throughout your rookie season? And as you're navigating a lot of events for the first time, what are some of the biggest lessons or just pieces of advice you've learned or been told about how to navigate a tour season?
ALLISEN CORPUZ: Yeah, I think it's really important to be able to balance your tournaments with your rest. I actually ended up withdrawing a little late from last week just to really prepare for this event, and I think that was just the right move with how far of a travel day it would've been.
That and then really just kind of managing my game and really not trying to get too low or too high. Yeah, it's just been really fun to compete with the world's best and kind of see how my game compares to theirs.
Q. Always a learning curve out here. You really transitioned so well and had some great finishes. Has any of that surprised you, that you've done that so early on in your career?
ALLISEN CORPUZ: Yeah, a little bit. Definitely before coming on tour I was expecting like maybe really would be working for my card, and I'm really lucky that I'm not having to worry about that at this point.
I think I know that I'm a really solid player, and it's just really nice to have seen like the results this early. Yeah, really looking forward to just working hard and continuing that.
Q. Prior to this year you had a couple starts out here maybe?
ALLISEN CORPUZ: I played the local event in Hawaii and then I played the U.S. Open a few times as an amateur. I really didn't play too much.
Q. Just wondering if any USC alum, Tiffany, has given you some advice along the way even coming into your rookie season?
ALLISEN CORPUZ: Yeah, she's not a USC alum, but Megan Khang, we've been really close friends for a really long time and she's helped me out a ton.
As far as alum, Annie Park, played a bit with her junior golf, and obviously she turned pro before I got on the team. She's just so sweet. Always really helpful.
Yeah, just recently met Tiff and she gave me a few tips as well.
Q. She's from that rival school; now she's one of you. Just in terms of this golf course, did you like it right away?
ALLISEN CORPUZ: I thought it played really long during my practice round. I was a little worried about the length, and I think -- well, the wind flipped, which I think made the longer holes play a little bit shorter.
Yea, I think just with just how wet the fairways are a couple tees were moved forward, which made it a little easier.
But I really like the design. Like I think it's such a beautiful golf course.
Q. When did you withdraw from Japan? You said you withdrew late.
ALLISEN CORPUZ: I want to say like not -- I mean, not super late. It was just like right after the commitment deadline passed, so still a month before the tournament.
Q. Oh.
ALLISEN CORPUZ: Yeah, during the Texas tournament, yeah.
Q. Thank you. What was the best part of your game today and do you have a couple highlights among the birdies?
ALLISEN CORPUZ: Yeah, just really been hitting it solid and giving myself some good birdie looks, and then I don't typically make really long birdie putts, but I did make one on 4 today, so that was really nice.
Q. How long was that?
ALLISEN CORPUZ: Around 35 feet.
Q. You find yourself hitting some longer clubs in than the players you're with?
ALLISEN CORPUZ: I mean, I played with Maja and A Lim and I think they're two of the longer hitters on tour, so I was definitely hitting first a lot.
Q. You're safely in for next week. What does it mean to you to be playing for a $2 million winner's prize as a rookie?
ALLISEN CORPUZ: Yeah, I think it's awesome. I mean, anything that elevates the women's game I think is so great. It's just so awesome to see the support from CME, and, yeah I'm really excited to be there as a rookie.
Q. Were you inspired at all by Andrea Lee's victory, being around your age?
ALLISEN CORPUZ: Yeah, definitely. I mean, she's just always been good and obviously we're the same age, played a lot of junior golf with her and college golf as well, so it's just really awesome to see how she turned the page and has had a really good year this year.
