THE MODERATOR: We will start with questions in English.
Q. Congratulations. A great win. How do you reflect on that match?
YULIA PUTINTSEVA: I think I started pretty slow, because the court was a bit faster than I expected. Because I practiced yesterday on the practice courts, and everything was lightning. Plus Katie is playing fast.
I was just trying to adapt for the situation, trying to adjust my game a little bit, trying to be a little bit more aggressive. I really happy that I could bring the point in the end.
Q. It looked like she was swinging really freely at the start. Was she hitting quite a big ball?
YULIA PUTINTSEVA: Yeah, she was hitting freely. I could feel that she's feeling the game. She's there from the beginning of the match.
I couldn't do much as well, but then I just, as I said, I tried to adapt, tried to step a little bit closer to the baseline and to give her less time to do her stuff. That what help me to win.
Q. In the complexion of the tie overall, how important was this opening match to get this win?
YULIA PUTINTSEVA: I mean, everything is important. Every game, every point on this stage is very, very important, because they are counting everything.
I'm just, as I said, I was trying to do my best to win every single game that I could and just to, yeah, just try to relieve this pressure from myself that I have to, but at the same time to bring the fighting spirit.
Q. Over to Elena now to hopefully complete the job for you?
YULIA PUTINTSEVA: Well, we'll hope. I mean, we are a team, and I really hope that she can win. If she can't, we are always here for doubles. We are always ready for anything what's gonna happen.
