Trump National Doral
Quick Quotes
Q. DJ, how does it feel to be back at Doral? Obviously you like this place.
DUSTIN JOHNSON: Yeah, it does. It feels good to be back here. I've had a lot of success here. I like this golf course. I definitely missed being here, playing events here. Obviously now I think we'll be here for a few years at least.
I mean, it's a great golf course. It's a good test of golf. Yeah, it's a course I've always enjoyed playing.
Q. How does it set up for the Four Aces?
DUSTIN JOHNSON: I think good. Patrick has played well here. He won here. He really likes the golf course.
Perez, I think he's played it a couple times, and then Gooch, I think it's his first time being here.
Yeah, I think pretty much all golf courses set up just fine for us.
Q. It got to be pretty long when you won. It had been lengthened. It seems like even more so now. Is that true? Is it a pretty long test?
DUSTIN JOHNSON: Yes, it's a very long golf course. I don't even think we're playing it all the way back. They can move it back even further if they want.
But yeah, it's the same -- the only thing that's different a little bit is 17, they just brought the water in a little bit on the right by the green. Other than that, though, it's the same course as the one we left. He just added a few more trees down the right on 18.
Q. Will tomorrow be a little weird not playing?
DUSTIN JOHNSON: No.
Q. What do you do? Do you hit balls?
DUSTIN JOHNSON: Yeah, I'll come practice and I think we'll probably play one of the other courses just to get out and get some reps and just kind of a relaxing day. It's like any tournament; you start on a certain day. We're just starting on Saturday, not Friday.
Q. I was going to ask you about the Aces. Obviously you won the four straight and then after they changed the format you went sixth and fourth, I think. Do you think you're coming in with the kind of form you wanted to? Does it matter, the last two events? How do you judge it?
DUSTIN JOHNSON: Yeah, I think the team is still in good form. Thailand and Saudi, obviously I've played well there. Played okay this year and played okay in Thailand. I think that's kind of the biggest difference really on the team, because we were right there. We were pretty close in both events. If we had played well on Sunday we could have won either one of them, but you've got to have the whole team playing well if you want to win.
Q. What do you think of the format, the match play on Saturday?
DUSTIN JOHNSON: I think it'll be exciting. It's cool. Obviously it's something different. I'm looking forward to it. Obviously we'll know after tomorrow and Saturday how it really goes.
Q. Did you watch the press conference yesterday?
DUSTIN JOHNSON: I did not, but I'll be in one tomorrow afternoon.
Q. It was a little lively.
DUSTIN JOHNSON: Yeah, that's fine. It should be.
Q. Obviously on Sunday, provided you make it that far, all four rounds count. First time this has happened at LIV. What do you think of that?
DUSTIN JOHNSON: I think it's great. The four teams that make it to Sunday, any four of them can win. It doesn't matter what team it is. They've all got just as good a chance as you do.
I think it's definitely going to make for interesting TV just because all four guys got to play well if you want to win.
Q. What's the best piece of advice you've given your team this year?
DUSTIN JOHNSON: I have no idea, but I don't have to do too much with my guys. They're all good players. They know what to do.
Q. Have you given your team any advice?
DUSTIN JOHNSON: No. I mean, I'm sure I have. You'd have to ask them.
Q. Did you think in June of '22 when you made the decision to come to LIV, did you think that you would be where you are right now with $35 million worth of winnings and all the positivity that LIV has created?
DUSTIN JOHNSON: Yeah, I'm actually a little under where I thought I would be. But you know, I've done okay. I didn't quite reach my goal.
But yeah, I'm happy with it so far.
Q. What was your goal?
DUSTIN JOHNSON: Win them all. That's at every event I go to.
Q. You have many followers in Latin America. If they see you Sunday with the Fireballs, what do you think about that?
DUSTIN JOHNSON: Yeah, it would be great. I hope we're coming down the stretch and we both have a chance to win and we just happen to beat them by a shot. It would be fantastic.
Q. Which captain do you want to match up against?
DUSTIN JOHNSON: I don't know. It doesn't matter. We'll figure that out tomorrow. Obviously we don't know who's going to be in. By 5:00 tomorrow I guess we'll find out.
