Press Conference
P. KVITOVA/B. Pera
6-3, 7-5
Q. (Question of the effects of altitude.)
PETRA KVITOVA: I think I didn't start very, like, good. We were waiting for a little bit longer than we start normally. I started pretty slowly. I came back to it, and I started to serve a little bit better. Just played a little bit more and stayed there in the game.
First match in the high altitude I think was good, so I'm glad that I won and I have a next chance tomorrow.
Q. You haven't played much at altitude. What was it like for you with your asthma issues to adjust to 1,600 meters and everything else that's going on?
PETRA KVITOVA: Actually, compared to Madrid, this is not that high. Yeah, I mean, those first days -- actually was yesterday it was terrible. I was 10 meters out all day. It was a bit tougher.
I mean, in the match I managed somehow to play better. Yeah, I'm glad that we came already on Wednesday night, so I had couple of days of preparation.
Q. Next match Bianca Andreescu. Your expectation for the match?
PETRA KVITOVA: Well, I never played her, so it's nice to face somebody who I don't know game-wise. We didn't even practice, so it will be nice challenge actually. I know that she's very talented. She has a lot of variety in her game. That's what I'm looking forward.
I have to keep my game still on. It will be a nice matchup tomorrow.
Q. In terms of the altitude and just the ball, how quickly it's moving through the court, it could benefit you if you can control. So kind of how did you feel throughout the match today?
PETRA KVITOVA: Well, it's flying, but the court itself is pretty slow. It is mix of everything here. You have to be ready for every ball which is coming.
If it's fast and playing (indiscernible), I think it's good for me I think. I saw it even today when we were a little bit going to each other.
Yeah, just have to get kind of used to all the conditions, all the mixed conditions. The balls are not getting like that old pretty fast, so it's good.
Q. How does it feel that you play good tennis that even the bees want to see?
PETRA KVITOVA: Yeah, true. Then they were there a bit unfortunately. Yeah, we were waiting for a little bit long. I never experienced this.
Q. It's the first time that the bees come together and see you play?
PETRA KVITOVA: Yes.
Q. It was here in Mexico, right?
PETRA KVITOVA: Sorry?
Q. In Mex Republic.
PETRA KVITOVA: Yes.
Q. In terms of weather, what is better, Czech Republic or Mex Republic about the cold or the weather?
PETRA KVITOVA: I don't know. It's my first time here, so I don't know what to say.
Q. I just wanted to know. Here we are freezing, so I don't know. Maybe Czech Republic, it's very colder than here.
PETRA KVITOVA: Yeah, we have minus temps. I mean, I get used to it.
Q. But it's not cold?
PETRA KVITOVA: Not now, but it can get.
Q. After the match, do you want to whisper something to the ball that helps you win and play good this game?
PETRA KVITOVA: Do I want to say...
Q. Do you want to whisper something to the ball?
PETRA KVITOVA: No.
Q. What is it like to kind of finish your season? Obviously, you have done it with the WTA Finals before, but in terms of having a 1000 as the final event of the regular season, is it any different? Does it feel weird?
PETRA KVITOVA: Well, I mean, normally we do have Beijing as kind of last tournament. Depends if you qualify or not, but normally the smaller ones was not really playing in the end. So it was the same case actually this time.
I'm going for vacation after this. Whatever happens, happens.
Q. What do you think? There are many players of Czech Republic playing this kind of tournament, 1000. Many players.
PETRA KVITOVA: Yeah. I think it's great for Czech Republic for sure. I think we do have a lot of success in the Fed Cup and the team competition. I'm proud of Czech Republic. We are a very small country, with 10 million people in it, so it's actually a significant achievement.
