Citizens Bank Park
Philadelphia Phillies
Pregame 4 Press Conference
Q. How quickly did you get those T-shirts made?
JOSE ALVARADO: I don't know, man. That's unbelievable. After the game, they win the game in Atlanta, I say to -- from camera, like, "Strike one, strike two and good luck."
And when the team arrive here in Philly, I see the picture. Brad Hand, he make it for everybody, but, like, he send it to him, couple people. He's coming, couple more.
Q. Last night in the bullpen what was the atmosphere like in the crowd? And when Rhys hit the home run, what was the atmosphere like in the bullpen?
JOSE ALVARADO: Right now, like that's an incredible moment. Everybody -- his focus to like, everybody focused to win every game, continue to rally. And last night, I celebrate the homer for Hoskins and Harper.
It's very fun because that game is not easy. It's not easy. And everybody is, like, together. And the result, like, win the game. Today is a new day and let's go win this game here at home.
Q. Wondering if you could take us back to Atlanta, in May, the last game you pitched before you got sent out, could you have envisioned this now back then? Did you see the turnaround coming for yourself from then to now?
JOSE ALVARADO: I say it's too hard, my first two months in the season, when the season start to now. I can tell about that situation to right now.
Right I am not different. I haven't changed anything about my mechanics, about my grip on the ball. About that situation from now, for me, my bad day in Atlanta, I think about it, okay, I lose my career. Like so many words passed on from my manager.
For me, I say to myself, like, never give up. Never give up. Never look back. If you've got bad day, talk to God. Give me one more opportunity and keep going. If you look back, you lose because you want to.
In situations like that, you don't want to look back because when you look back, you start thinking about all the things you did wrong. I'm not that type of person. I just try to move forward because all I want to do is help the team.
Q. What's the most important thing number one thing that Rob Thomson brought to the dugout or the clubhouse when he took over?
JOSE ALVARADO: The most important message that he gave to us that I remember is that this is not a team from last year. This is a different team. This team is built to make the World Series. This team is to make it to where we're supposed to make it, to a World Series. Because we're really talented. We have a good group here. He wanted us to have fun, take advantage of the opportunity and just enjoy the moment.
