NL DIVISION SERIES: PADRES VS DODGERS

October 10, 2022

Trent Grisham

Los Angeles, California, USA

Dodger Stadium

San Diego Padres

Workout Day Press Conference

Q. Trent, did you get a chance to savor yesterday as much as you would like, or at what point do you have to start mentally turning the page and getting ready for this series?

TRENT GRISHAM: Yeah, I think we did a good job celebrating and having fun together, but yeah, today we're kind of moving on in the mindset and getting ready for tomorrow.

Q. How much does the momentum of what you guys accomplished in New York carry over into this series?

TRENT GRISHAM: I think everybody in the clubhouse feels really good about where we're at, so now it's just go out there and just execute and have fun.

Q. Bob talked a lot about turning the page, this was a fresh start. Obviously, we've seen with some of the players, but as a team, is that something you can do against this Dodger team that's been pretty tough to play against this year in the regular season?

TRENT GRISHAM: Yeah, I think I said it yesterday too. Yeah, they handled us pretty well during the year, but now everything is on the line, who wins, who loses. There's a winner goes on, and loser goes home. Everything is on the line now. Like I said, we feel good where we're at.

Q. What's the toughest thing about playing this Dodger team, and what do you guys need to do to come out on top?

TRENT GRISHAM: Toughest thing is they're just a good team all around. Like I said, I think we're clicking on all levels right now, and we have a lot of belief in our clubhouse about what we can do. So see how it matches up.

Q. Heard a lot of guys say over the years, you can't turn it on this time of year, but it sure looks like that's what happened in New York. How do you sort of explain these last three games?

TRENT GRISHAM: I think we've all believed that that's the kind of team we are all year long. It necessarily hasn't come out for a long period of time throughout the year, but this time of year is all about who is playing well right now and how we're going to stack up, and we think we stack up well, and we think we're playing well right now.

Q. How about you personally?

TRENT GRISHAM: I don't know. Just I feel good up there. I kind of felt good going into the last week of the season, and kind of just carried it over.

Q. We've talked about what confidence means for your game and the player you are when you are confident. I'm sure what you've been working towards is more than just a weekend, but what difference can a weekend like you had make for your confidence going forward?

TRENT GRISHAM: Anytime you play well like that in that situation, it's going to give you confidence going forward. But the main goal is just repeat, repeat, repeat.

Like you said, it was just a weekend. We're looking to play for another three weeks to a month, so I'm worried about keeping it going.

Q. Trent, you think there could be an advantage having played a Wild Card series compared to a team that sat around for six days? That's a long layoff.

TRENT GRISHAM: I think there can be an advantage to staying fresh and playing. I think there's also an advantage to resting, obviously. We play 162 games, so obviously rest is -- I don't know if it's wanted or needed, but you definitely take it when it comes.

Q. Does winning a series like this put away all the frustrations the Padres have had well before you got there as far as against these Dodgers?

TRENT GRISHAM: I don't know if it puts it all away. I think it will after a world championship. I think it's a big step for our fan base, big step for us as an organization going forward.

Q. We've heard a lot this season about Bob Melvin, the faith he has in his players. What's the impact that Bob has had on you this season?

TRENT GRISHAM: Consistent faith. He has believed in me since day one. He told me day one, told me throughout the entire year when I was struggling, when I was down, and told me last night after winning that series.

It's just the consistency for me that speaks volumes to me. I really appreciate that.
