Quick Quotes
Q. Okay, 9-under.
DORSEY ADDICKS: Uh-huh.
Q. Eagle and a bogey in there.
DORSEY ADDICKS: Yes.
Q. How did it feel walking off that last green?
DORSEY ADDICKS: I'm kind of speechless, honestly. I've worked really hard this year, just scores and the results haven't been there. So to go out on moving day and move way up the leaderboard and give myself a chance tomorrow to win it is huge.
Q. And then you finished your round one stroke back from the current lead, in contention for tomorrow. What do you do today to kind of rest and prepare after a great round but make sure you're ready to go for tomorrow?
DORSEY ADDICKS: Yeah, I'm going to enjoy this, but I'm not satisfied yet. So we'll go home, chill, recover, watch some football, just take my mind off golf, and tomorrow is what it is. I've got nothing to lose but a lot of experience to gain.
Q. Walk me through your eagle.
DORSEY ADDICKS: Yeah, so I'll give you my numbers because it's kind of fun. Because I'm a geek like that.
So hit my drive just a little bit left but hit the fairway. I was a little nervous. I was hitting it left early and had to right it throughout the round. Even to the last hole I was still kind of righting that hoping it doesn't go left a little bit.
And I hit 8-iron to 12 feet from 162. Actually didn't really quite hit it all that well, but that green is firm and released just past pin high, and I had a 12-footer breaking right downhill and it just dropped over the edge.
I was so stoked. Had an eagle putt there the first round that at the last second broke, so I was happy to finally make one there.
Q. That was on 18 right before you made your turn. What kind of momentum did that give you heading into the back nine?
DORSEY ADDICKS: Yeah, honestly, I was probably more nervous on the tee shot and approach shot on 18 than I was on any other shot all day just because it's such a hole that you can take advantage of.
And then really after that hole it was like, let's settle back down and try and finish this and not get ahead of ourselves. I knew where I was, but I didn't really know what my score was. Like I walked off 18 and asked dad what I shot.
Kind of knew it was 9-under, but I was trying not to pay attention to how many birdies I had made.
Q. Before the tournament started you said you were mostly excited about competing.
DORSEY ADDICKS: Yeah.
Q. How did it feel the energy of your group, especially playing with Carley, you guys are so close? How do you get in the competitive mindset without jumping the gun too much and saying you need to get these birdies, you need to press?
DORSEY ADDICKS: Yeah, I was disappointed after my 2-under yesterday. It was a grind of a 2-under, to be honest. It was a great score for how bad I hit the ball. Dad thought it was great and I was like, no, I'm pissed.
I wasn't satisfied at all. It was like, you know, two more events this season. If I play well this week it does matter, but if I play bad, it doesn't matter. I made the cut. I did step one. Now let's go see what we can do and have fun.
You know, early in the round we were all -- we were putting really good. I mean, missed my putt for par on the first hole, but hit a great putt. Just hit a bump and missed.
Drained like, gosh, what was that, like a 34-footer on the second and a 36-footer on the third, and Gabby drained a couple putts, so we were all just putting really good and we got momentum going early. It was fun to play with two girls I know well and had a fun day really.
Q. And then one follow-up question. So you said that you made the cut, that was step one. Kind of relax and play your game and see where it goes from here.
DORSEY ADDICKS: Uh-huh.
Q. How does that mentality help you relax and play the game that you're capable of? I know a lot of girls say I lowered my expectations and went out and fired off an insane round. Does that work for you too?
DORSEY ADDICKS: Yes. My expectations were high today because it's such a scorable course and I was disappointed after yesterday.
You know, it's tough. I think I've made cuts so many times and played just terrible the last day or played solid and then you get lapped. It was like, let's just see if we can take advantage of making the cut.
I just wanted to be up near the leaders, within reaching distance for something special tomorrow. You know, I was able to do it today and I'm excited to be up on the leaderboard and have a chance to fight and grind it out tomorrow.
