St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland
Quick Quotes
Q. Seven birdies, round of 66, great day for golf, especially on the Old Course. You must be delighted the way you started.
MARCEL SIEM: Yeah, it was very, very nice. I mean, you looked at the forecast for the week, it was a bit funky. I think we were really lucky today. Can't get any better, not a lot of wind. So I'm really, really happy with my start.
Q. Speaking of the forecast, you have Carnoustie which will have the brunt of the weather this week. Rumours there might be a shotgun start at 8.30 but I'm sure you're happy the way you started this week.
MARCEL SIEM: Yeah, Carnoustie is always the one you want to get out of the week. There will be a shotgun start tomorrow at 8.30 and a good drive there as well. Happy I had a good round today. Had a puffer there, so to say. But at the end of the day, St Andrews and Kingsbarns, they turn into monsters as well all of a sudden with strong winds and rain and if you find the pot bunkers on these courses they are easier than Carnoustie. If you play proper golf and strategic golf, you can get away with Carnoustie as well.
Q. The team aspect, you're tied at the leaderboard. What's it like playing together?
MARCEL SIEM: He's a super guy. Jim, I think it's his first time he's playing out here. We had a blast out there. He's a super cool guy and he had a bit of back pain but he ripped his driver even with the back pain. We get along really nicely. Hopefully we get Carnoustie out of the way tomorrow with a smile, that's very important, and looking forward to Kingsbarns already on Saturday.
