Press Conference
CHUAH CHOO CHIANG: We want to welcome Adam Scott and Cam Davis in the media center. We'll have Sebastian Muñoz and Tom Kim joining us later. Let's get started with the Aussie boys.
Adam, what a day. Describe the motions and the feelings and the vibes in the team room right now.
ADAM SCOTT: Great day for us, and a great afternoon to win that session. And then for myself and Cam to win that match down the stretch, you know, it's those moments why you work hard and see what you've got, and I was so impressed with Cam playing those last three holes like that.
I'm happy he could carry me in.
CHUAH CHOO CHIANG: Cam, while there were some clutch putts in the end for you, what did it all mean for you at the end?
CAM DAVIS: This is a dream come true to be in this scenario for me. I don't want Adam to feel old or anything, but he's been a childhood hero of mine really right from when I started to taking golf seriously.
To play with him is a dream come true. To play great golf alongside him is even better. I just, you know, can't imagine -- well, it was hard to imagine myself being in these shoes right now, and I'm loving every minute of it, because it's been absolutely awesome.
Q. Adam, can we just go back to you've had a lot of different kind of emotional days when it comes to this particular event. How would you rate today?
ADAM SCOTT: Today was a great day. We were in a deep hole coming here on the bus this morning, and all of the boys dug really deep.
You know, we halved the morning session, and we won in afternoon session, and the momentum, you know, I think over the course of my career in this, there hasn't been many times I've felt momentum going our way. And today, we had the momentum. We certainly have it finishing this evening, and it will be great if we could keep it rolling tomorrow.
Q. For Tom, for those of us who haven't seen you play as much as we'd like, are you always this fiery and animated? What is it about this tournament that is sort of bringing that out of you?
TOM KIM: I mean, in tournaments, I would never, ever shout this loud or go this crazy. But I'm just trying to bring some good energy to the team. You know, that's all I can do. We're behind a little bit.
So I'm just trying to bring positive vibes and try to get the team going and just give momentum to the team.
To beat a team like that today, I feel like tomorrow we're going to have a lot of momentum going in.
Q. For Cam, how would you describe what happened on those last three holes and then, specifically, what were you feeling over that last putt?
CAM DAVIS: I mean, last three holes, I kind of went numb, to be honest. I was in a situation where I was going for it. But I just got in a groove that made golf feel easy for once. It's very hard to get in a groove like that. It's what we live for, and I felt like I got that flow zone going towards the end.
On the last hole, I just read two putts perfectly in a row. I saw that putt, I saw a read again, and I just wanted to get it started online. To be honest, I felt like I did a pretty good job of putting it in its place, just try and make this one putt and then deal with whatever comes afterwards.
To see it roll right in the middle again was very sweet. That was a very, very cool finish to the round.
Q. Tom, two things. One, is this as good as you dreamed and imagined it would be? And, two, you're the guy that everyone is looking to on your team for that emotion and that spark. Justin Thomas is the guy who is the spark on the U.S. team. Would you love a shot at him tomorrow? First one first.
TOM KIM: First one. What was the first one?
Q. The first one is the dream you have since you made this team. Is it as good or even better?
TOM KIM: It would be a dream if we win it. That wouldn't matter if we don't win it. But with the bond, I've never played team events much. So it's very, very different, and I've realized why guys always want to make these teams, and it's very inspiring.
But job's not done. We've got a job to do tomorrow. We've got a great group of guys, and we believe. I think that's the biggest thing. No one really believed in us, but we believe in ourselves.
But to answer your question, yes, it is everything I've dreamed of and probably even more if we win it.
Q. Would you like a shot at J.T. tomorrow?
TOM KIM: Anyone, really. Someone's got to play someone. So I just want to play with anyone and try to get a point for the team.
Q. This is for Sebastian. How has been these two days, actually three days playing in the Presidents Cup for the international team, and actually today, winning in the match on No. 16, playing in front of your family, your friends, and also fellow Colombians?
SEBASTIAN MUĂ‘OZ: It's an awesome feeling, being out here representing team international with these studs. It's awesome. It's a great feeling knowing you can just go out, play your best, don't be shy and embrace it. I feel like that's the attitude we played today and the team played with today with nothing to lose.
Embrace it, and now looking forward to tomorrow and the rest of the event.
Q. Tom, what was the best part of today?
TOM KIM: Last hole, without a doubt. I was looking over that putt, and I wanted it more than anything in the world. I would have done anything for that to go in. And I had the whole team behind me.
But I think for me and Si Woo, I think that birdie -- that eagle on 11 was that -- we were 2 down, and we just came off a bogey on 10. And, you know, I tried to really bring some energy. We got some momentum there.
But without a doubt, 18 was without a doubt probably the highlight of the week so far for me.
Q. Tom, I'm wondering, do you think people are paying attention to you now?
TOM KIM: I mean, I just got to play my own golf. So, I mean, if people start to recognize me, I would appreciate that. But I'm just trying to play good golf and just try to put points for the team.
Q. Did you want that moment at the end?
TOM KIM: Oh, 100 percent. I was already thinking in the back of my mind, if this goes in, what am I going to do? How am I going to celebrate?
(Laughter.)
That's if it goes in, right? I did stay in the moment, but that was definitely on my mind.
And it was an amazing feeling for that to go in because the team was behind, and they were watching. And, yeah, I mean, I wanted it more than anything in the world.
Q. Adam, when you look at these three guys to your right in a session like this, do you feel like you're seeing the future? Can you envision, you know, ten years from now, you're the captain and these guys are the core of your team? Do those thoughts enter your mind at all?
ADAM SCOTT: Well, they are the future for sure, and they're proving that they've got what it takes to mix it. And I have no doubt that these kind of experiences for these three guys will push them forward in their own careers, not just Presidents Cup careers, but do big things.
When you can perform like this down the stretch against this American team, you can do it in big tournaments. So, for sure, they're the future.
But that whole room is the future. This is a pretty young team, and I think everything that's gone into this team this year, every one of them will be working hard to get on the next team.
Q. Quick one for Sebastian, the way this worked out, you had to do some waiting and seize your opportunities when they came. You did. Was that difficult? How did you kind of stay mentally focused?
SEBASTIAN MUĂ‘OZ: I had good strategy. I was just going to come here at 9:00. I had no idea who was going to play, who was not going to play. I found out I was going to play around 9:00, 9:30. So I just decided to stay in the cabin. I didn't want to go out there. Kind of puts me in a nervous situation, like not being able to play and, like, looking at shots.
So I just decided to stay in and kind of keep my focus, keep my energy, and be ready to go whenever Trevor asked me to.
CHUAH CHOO CHIANG: We want to thank the international team. Good luck tomorrow.
