Team World - 2
THE MODERATOR: Good morning, everybody. Welcome to the press conference of Frances Tiafoe and Jack Sock. As usual, if we could keep it to one question each.
Questions.
Q. A question for both of you, which is that obviously the circumstances tonight, highly emotional, pretty memorable night. At a certain point, does the match just become a match and are you looking at these guys at various points during it thinking of the whole, everything that's swirling around it?
JACK SOCK: It's tough, I think. While playing, it felt like a match. Settled in while we were all bawling our eyes out there afterwards, but during the match, felt like a competitive match.
I've got, you know, the opportunity to play him a few times in Laver Cup, and that team before, so brought back some memories of that, which was exciting.
'Foe and I played him together for the first time, trying to bring crazy energy. Obviously had 99.9% of the crowd against us. But it was super fun to just be a part of that match. I think we are going to be forever grateful to be a part of the GOAT's final match.
But I don't think it settled in until after. When I hit that last shot, and realized it was over, it was, like, kind of went numb...
FRANCES TIAFOE: Empty feeling.
JACK SOCK: Yeah.
FRANCES TIAFOE: It was weird. Beginning of the match was weird. Like it was, I was there to kind of win, and Mack was get us, Come on, come on.
Man, his last match. Every point they win, the crowd erupts. Any time they had the Jumbotron, his face came up, they erupted.
Again, the event goes on, and we really wanted to win tonight. Once you get your competitive juices going, it's just another event.
Q. Specifically for Frances, obviously you have had an incredible four to six weeks here with the Open, having the success you had in Ashe, did that at all give you any kind of reinforcement tonight to know that on a big, big stage with everybody watching that you can deliver in critical moments?
FRANCES TIAFOE: Yeah. As I said in New York, I definitely really enjoy playing in big stadiums and big moments. I think I have always played some really good tennis in those situations.
You know, you just rise to the occasion. I think today is why you put in the time and work hard, show your game when everyone is there watching, millions of people watching.
Jack is also the same, he's a big-match player. I knew both of us, we can definitely put on a show. Tonight was just that, for sure, if not more.
