Quick Quotes
Q. Cameron, this is your first time ever playing in a Presidents Cup. What was the experience like for you?
CAMERON YOUNG: It was awesome. I had a really good partner that I leaned on today. The fans have been awesome. It's been wild. I'm having a great time.
Q. Collin, before the matches began this afternoon, Davis Love III received a massive ovation. He's a captain again for the United States. We had a great shot of you celebrating with him a little while ago. What's it like to play for a guy like that?
COLLIN MORIKAWA: He deserves the world. Any time we're able to announce these guys who are captains for us, the things they've done, not just for golf, but the communities and just all around, you know, we aspire to be like them. It's an honor to play under them.
They keep it pretty simple, but they know, you know, we owe them a lot for what we have and what we get. But it's nice to have a good match today and finish it off in a little style.
Q. Little League baseball, that was like a walk-off home run, wasn't it?
CAMERON YOUNG: Yeah, that was cool. I kind of did know it in the back of my mind. I definitely didn't mean to hit that hard, but I'm glad it ended up where it did.
Q. Collin, let's talk about playing with Cameron and how you guys played off each other. It seemed like you both were in pretty tough spots during the match but you guys both hit great shots to recover, including here on 17.
COLLIN MORIKAWA: We were joking around, I hit pretty much every iron shot and he hit driver and putter. It's a great combo, when he frickin' pounds it down the middle of the fairway and I have 8-iron into par-5s.
No, you know, we just got into a little rhythm and we probably didn't make as many putts as we wanted to or needed to. But at the end of the day, we got it done, and it was nice to see that one drop. I mean, we kind of deserved one by that time, and it was due.
Q. And they're tough competition. That's a tough duo there, isn't it?
COLLIN MORIKAWA: To be honest, I don't think they really missed a shot. They may have hit one poor tee shot. I think K.H. was hitting every single fairway. Tom was hitting great iron shots. Smart, smart iron shots you need to do in alternate shot. So we had to play some pretty good golf.
Q. Final thing, is this all you thought it would be, your first Presidents Cup, your first international competition?
CAMERON YOUNG: So far, absolutely, yeah. We have an incredible team. It's a lot of fun just for me to be around this kind of competition and this caliber of play. It's been a great time.
Q. This golf course, to go out and get the match today. What were you able to do so well today, Collin?
COLLIN MORIKAWA: To be honest, just stick to our strengths. This course really sets up to where, like, if you play the odds or you play the evens, you hit the majority of a certain shot. Cam hit a lot of drivers. I hit a lot of irons.
That's kind of what you describe our golf games like. We were able to feed off that. We were grinding out there for sure.
Q. Closed out with a great birdie putt on 17. This is your first team competition, representing the United States in this magnitude. What was that moment like, and what has this week been like for you so far?
CAMERON YOUNG: That moment there is about all I can ask for. Obviously, it's the first day, but every point we get is important. And that's a feeling I've been waiting to have for a long time.
Q. The partnership, is this something you guys wanted?
COLLIN MORIKAWA: Yeah, Davis called me up, like, a couple weeks ago or two weeks ago and asked me how I would pair with Cam. Look, I've known Cam a long time. We just haven't played that much. Him coming out this year, and we didn't get many pairings, weren't in the same groups toward the end of tournaments.
But I've known him a long time. It's not like I haven't seen him. I just don't remember him hitting it this far. But I think having someone that's, like, similar age just helps sometimes. We're kind of even keeled demeanor. We just kind of get on with our day and get the job done, hopefully.
Q. Why do you think your guys' games mesh so well? It seems like if you could build a perfect golfer, you're kind of starting with your first two shots.
CAMERON YOUNG: I think it's pretty freeing for me, knowing that if I just get it in the fairway somewhere, he's probably going to hit it to about eight feet, which he did all day. I missed a few too many for him.
But, yeah, I mean, I think just knowing, obviously, that Collin's had the amount of success he has, and it's not doing anything strange. It's just very solid golf. Knowing what you're going to get day in and day out with him is very comforting.
Q. Trying to think back here. You're the odds? You're the evens?
COLLIN MORIKAWA: Yeah. This course works out in a favorable way for, literally, I think you had driver, wedge, and a putter the first --
CAMERON YOUNG: I think I hit maybe four clubs today, maybe five.
COLLIN MORIKAWA: It's just how this course works out if you're hitting fairways and greens.
