Quick Quotes
Q. We are with Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele. Why were you able to dominate out there?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Just with the wind kind of picking up and that storm getting close to us, we felt like the wind was all over the place. So we just told each other to try and ball strike the heck out of this place, and that's what we did.
Q. Patrick, we know that you two guys spend a lot of time together off the golf course. But on the golf course, you guys are 5-0-0 together in team competitions for the United States. Why do you mesh so well?
PATRICK CANTLAY: That might be for alternate shot. We lost a couple of best ball matches.
Q. Yes, in that format.
PATRICK CANTLAY: We definitely love these events and love playing with each other. We've played a lot of alternate shot with each other, and I think we just feel really comfortable and confident. On a day like there to make no bogeys, it was really good golf.
Q. Patrick, I'll start with you. What makes you two so comfortable with each other in the foursome format with alternate shot?
PATRICK CANTLAY: I think we get along, first of all. But now we've played so many times that we feel comfortable. I was saying that on the 1st hole, even though it's alternate shot, it feels totally normal.
I think that's an advantage for us in this format.
Q. And talk about that match. You guys were on a bit of a roll. They came back a bit, Xander, but it seems like you guys put the gas down again.
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Yeah. You always expect your opponent to -- we had our early wave of birdies and holes we won, and then we expected them to come on strong. We got lucky there on 10. That could have been a big one, but they missed.
We kind of used that to give us some momentum to finish off this match.
Q. It was interesting what Trevor Immelman set out with his first pairing.
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Yeah, I told the guys last night we need to set the tone, us and J.T. and Jordan's match, and we did. Playing this format on a day like today and not making any bogeys, it's exactly what we need.
Q. You guys are so good at alternate shot together. Does it seem instinctive, that you know each other's game so well that you feel like you're playing your game?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Yeah, I just heard Pat say he was talking up the 1st hole, saying he doesn't feel too different even though you're only hitting half the shots. We play so much golf together, we're so comfortable, we're good friends. It's just a lot of fun for us to do this.
Q. This is the first of several matches you will play in this series. What does it do for you mentally to get a "W" on your first match in this series?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: It's important. Like Pat said, we're trying to set the tone here for Team USA. It's just one point. Obviously, we feel good with how we played it, and we'll go from there.
