THE MODERATOR: Italy's qualification to Malaga, despite the defeat, a little bit of a consolation today?
JANNIK SINNER: Yeah, for sure. It was our main goal, no, to qualify for Malaga. First place, thanks to Matteo.
So, yeah, I think we can as a team be happy to be in that place where we are right now.
Talking about my match, it didn't went my way at the end of the day. I mean, I tried my best from the beginning. Yeah, I think I can take out the positive things.
THE MODERATOR: How much the US Open, the trip, the time difference, took a toll on your performance today?
JANNIK SINNER: Yeah, for sure it's tough, especially physically. Today I was not in the best shape physically. Yesterday I felt good on the practice court. Maybe also mentally I was a little bit tired, knowing that we were sure to go, to be in the first place.
I tried my best. When I go on court, I try my best. As I said, today didn't went my way. I can take the positive things out.
Thanks to everyone for the support which is very, very nice, yeah.
THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.
Q. Today was very particular because it's rare that you are playing that everything is already decided. How do you approach a match like this? Is it difficult to play? I don't know if you ever played something like this.
JANNIK SINNER: I tried for sure my best. When I go on court, I don't go on court just to play, but to win.
Talking about my Davis Cup, maybe this match was, yeah, in one sense the less important match I played in Davis Cup. I was not thinking about this, no? I tried to go on court and trying to win.
I was maybe a little bit tired today, mentally and physically, especially when I had to move. Usually I'm a little bit faster. I don't want to take away nothing from Mikael. He's a good friend. He's a very great player. Hopefully he can play tennis like today in the next tournaments because I think he has good quality.
Yeah, I wish him all the best.
Was like this.
