September 1, 2022
New York, New York, USA
Press Conference
J. SINNER/C. Eubanks
6-4, 7-6, 6-2
THE MODERATOR: Straight sets. Your thoughts on the win.
JANNIK SINNER: It was a tough match. A player who I never faced before, so I didn't knew exactly what to expect. I knew his biggest weapon was his serve. Yeah, I think I tried to adapt myself in the best possible way.
The second set was a tight set. The tiebreak was long, but the key today, so I'm happy to be through in three sets today.
THE MODERATOR: Questions.
Q. How would you describe the state of your game right now and what you think the biggest changes are in your play on hard court over the last year, let's say?
JANNIK SINNER: Well, we work very hard every day, especially on the serve, trying to go a little bit more in the net.
Today was not easy, this part, because he was striking the ball very, very hard. So for me it was tough to try to go a little bit more to the net.
But, for example, in the first match I went many times to the net. So this part we tried to improve. I think the all-around game, also slice, and then trying to understand when to use certain shots. Yeah, I think this kind of thing I have improved, for sure also mentally, because now I'm in a little bit different state of mind.
Yeah, I think these are the biggest ones, then, for sure, is the rest also. But, you know, it's all part of the process, and we put a lot of effort in the work.
Q. What's different about your state of mind?
JANNIK SINNER: When you come in the tour, maybe 2019, I was here and it was the first Grand Slam where I qualified, so you play a little bit freer, no? Because maybe you think a little bit less now, and you understand also the process of the work a little bit.
So it is a little bit different, for sure. And I am also in a different position now than two or three years ago. So in the beginning it takes time to understand some things. You have, yeah, many, many things to where you can see that you have to improve, and you have to trust also yourself and your team, no, to do better.
This is what we try to do.
