Press Conference
I. SWIATEK/J. Niemeier
2-6, 6-4, 6-0
THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.
Q. Can you give us a couple of words before how was it to play Swiatek at Louis Armstrong Stadium. What was successful in the first set, and what happened in the third set?
JULE NIEMEIER: First of all, thank you.
I think it was a great experience for me to play on Armstrong against the best player in the world at the moment. Yeah, as you said, I played a really good first set. I felt really good on court. Played aggressive. Played my game.
Yeah, then I felt like I was serving not that well anymore. She was playing much better. So then it's tough, of course, if you're not serving 100% to beat a player like Iga, it's pretty difficult.
You could see it in the second, but especially in the third set. Even though I felt like I was not serving that well anymore in the second, I still had chances. I mean, we were breaking each other, like, two or three times. If I could hold one service game maybe at, I don't know, 4-All, 5-All, maybe I can win the second set. But that how it is.
Q. If you played her again next week or next month, what do you think you would have to do different?
JULE NIEMEIER: Well, serve better (smiling).
I mean, the third set, I didn't win a game. I felt like it was closer than it looks now in the end. I could win the first service game, then it's 1-All, then it's different. Even at Love-4, I had the break points, 15-40.
But, yeah, that's tennis. Yeah, I mean, next time just serve better, maybe stay aggressive in the second and third set, then maybe have a chance to win.
