September 8, 2022

Gianna Clemente

Cincinnati, Ohio, USA

Kenwood Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. All right, here with Gianna Clemente. Nice round. 2-under 70. Not as low as you shot in the Monday qualifier, but solid. How do you feel about opening day?

GIANNA CLEMENTE: I feel good about it. Could have been a little better. I can think of a couple putts that maybe I should have made.

But it was all right. I definitely know that I can go lower than that, so I'm going to go work on my putting a little bit and we'll get that fixed up a little bit and hopefully it'll be lower tomorrow.

Q. Heard a lot from players today. It's kind of strange when you're playing a golf course and the fairways are soft and the greens are a little bit firmer. Did you find that weird today?

GIANNA CLEMENTE: Yeah, I could tell -- I went out and watched a couple holes yesterday because I wasn't able to play and I could tell the greens were skidding a little bit.

I was like, oh, those really aren't -- they don't look like they're spinning. The girls were hitting good shots, so I knew they weren't like miss-hit.

Yeah, the greens were definitely not spinning a lot today, so it was difficult to judge the distance a little bit.

But the greens were rolling really good when you're putting. It's just it's hard to judge the distance a little bit, yeah.

Q. You told me earlier in the week you feel a little bit more comfortable now, because you did get to see the whole golf course on Monday. Just how much does that help?

GIANNA CLEMENTE: I think it helped me a lot more because I played the golf course under competition instead of a practice round. I think if I see the golf course once under competition it's different than seeing it just like when you're just casually playing a practice round.

Even though I had only played it once, obviously I played really well, so I felt pretty confident about it. I wasn't worried about it at all. Obviously I would've loved for more putts to roll in today, but it was a good day overall.
