Q. Shane, do you feel like you hopefully did enough to get yourself a ticket to East Lake?

SHANE LOWRY: I hope so. Look, that was my main focus going out this morning. I played some great golf today. Disappointing three-putt on 17 and missed a decent chance on the last, but I need some things to go my way this afternoon.

It was weird, it was so weird out there today, it was like trying to make a cut on a Sunday, and I'm also trying to do well in the tournament. It's like, it was a strange feeling.

Yeah, all in all, I suppose I still have to look at positives from today and this season. I think it's been a pretty good year for me. I've only played 18 events on the PGA TOUR, and to be in this position is pretty good. I've had some nice finishes, and yeah, we'll see where this leaves me this afternoon.

Q. Did you feel some extra nerves today?

SHANE LOWRY: It was weird, I hit a great drive down the last and I had 100 yards to the flag and it was an absolute perfect number and I look up, and the scoreboard is right behind the flag, and it's, Shane Lowry 30, right beside my name. It's like, okay, let's not try and -- it's one of those, try and make birdie, and it's so tricky out there that you kind of just have to play sensible golf, and you can't really go after much. I played great golf today. It's the best I've played in a while, so I'd like to bring that on to East Lake.

Q. With how great of a career you've had, is it a little surprising to you that you haven't qualified --

SHANE LOWRY: Look, I just think, I said 18 events. I think the fact that I play Europe and over here, it's just so hard to do. Look, obviously Rory does every year and these guys, but Rory is Rory. I think throw five or six more events in my schedule and I'm guaranteed to be there next week. That's the disappointing part of it. I feel like there's a lot of things that didn't go my way this season. I had a few chance to win tournaments that I didn't get over the line, but all in all, it's been a pretty good year without a win. It's kind of one of those.

Q. What was the deal with your caddie's shoes yesterday?

SHANE LOWRY: Yeah, I actually -- it's funny because I actually bought him those shoes. He loves those Jordan runners. He likes them, they're comfortable or whatever. I bought him a few pairs, and I was home on Monday and I brought them up to him this week, and yeah, he just got really bad blisters.

I said to him -- we got stuff out, and I actually wrapped it up for him on the 5th hole. I didn't do a very good job, obviously, and then on the 9th I said, have you got your sandals with you, your Birkenstocks, and he did. So I said, why not wear them for the back nine; I mean, it's dry, it's fine, and they're comfy, so yeah. Looked like Jesus out there. (Laughter.)
