Quick Quotes
Q. Do you want to start with the eagle?
PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, 107, I think, a big lob wedge. It was downwind and just got lucky and fed off the sleep perfect right in.
Q. Did you know where you were aiming?
PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, I don't know the golf course too well. Obviously it's my first time here, so I've been on my wedge shots walking up to the green to see exactly where I wanted to land it, and landed it in basically the perfect spot.
Q. Not to be negative, I guess that's the first three-footer you've missed all season on 17, bad read, concentration? What do you chalk it up to?
PATRICK CANTLAY: You know, the greens are a little beat up and it probably wasn't a good stroke, so I'll go take care of that after the round, practice little bit. It's very unlike me, and things like that happen.
Q. Did it shock you?
PATRICK CANTLAY: No. I mean, just figured I needed to birdie the last hole, get some momentum back going into tomorrow.
Q. What did you see on the last one? Did you do what you wanted to on the last one once you walked up to the green and took a look?
PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, yeah.
Q. What was your target, I guess?
PATRICK CANTLAY: I thought a little past and to the left it would come back off that slope. It was another lob wedge, and the only thing I was concerned about was spinning it too much coming back down the slope. But with a down wind I didn't think it was possible.
Q. Xander said it was pretty impressive how just like last year you're kind of elevating your game at a very good time of year. Any explanation for how you've been able to do that? Obviously you've played well all season but even taking it up a notch this week.
PATRICK CANTLAY: I don't think so. I think maybe in the bigger tournaments it's easier to kind of narrow your focus, and I've done a good job of staying in the moment and trying to get in the right frame of mind and good attitude.
I like this golf course. I like the grasses that it's played on. I like bentgrass, and this golf course is in really pure shape. It was even better before they burned out the greens.
Q. No one has ever successfully defended the FedExCup. You're obviously potentially putting yourself in a really good position to do so. What would that mean to you if you were able to do it?
PATRICK CANTLAY: You know, my head is not even there right now. I think the best way to handle this playoff system is to just focus on doing your best in the tournament that you're in and not worry too much about the points. So that's what I'm going to do.
