Beau Brushert

Quick Quotes

Q. What's impressed you most about her golf game?

BEAU BRUSHERT: Well, I think her just being 17, of course, and no fear. I can think back this whole week, and there's times I've told her, you'd better miss that on the right, or we've got to miss this approach shot on the right, and I look up and it's going dead at the flag. She's had me more nervous than a long-tail cat in a roomful of rocking chairs, and she's 17.

I think what's impressed me, too, is if she has a bad hole, she doesn't let it bother her. She just bounces right back, goes and gets it the next hole.

Q. How much has she picked your brain? I know there's a bit of a language barrier, but on the course itself and putting maybe?

BEAU BRUSHERT: I mean, I noticed as far as the putting, the first two-stroke rounds and maybe -- we had a tough first match in the round of 64. I think she lost a little bit of confidence on her putting. Her pace has been amazing. I just noticed right from the get-go her pace was amazing, but she was losing a little bit of confidence, missed some short putts. And then after Wednesday's match that we won against Jennifer Cleary, who was a really good player, I just went home and said, I'm going to start being a lot more assertive on the reads, especially the long ones. I think that probably took a tiny bit of pressure off her because her pace is so good. As long as she just kind of saw what I was seeing and then she could just put it there and her pace -- I can't even remember one three-point all week she's had. Yeah, her putting has been amazing.

Like you said, there's a little bit of a language barrier, but sign language, we've gotten good with the sign language, and then I'm an amazing artist on the yardage book with stick figures. I'm a good stick figure drawer. No, I just kind of tell her where to put it, and yeah, she's done the rest. She's amazing.

I got her yardages down the very first practice round. That was big. And then once I kind of -- after about two rounds, I saw on the stroke play how she likes to putt and hit it past a tiny little bit usually, so I was able to give her some good reads after that, and it's worked out.
