TRUST GOLF WOMEN'S SCOTTISH OPEN

July 28, 2022

Gemma Dryburgh

Troon, Scotland, UK

Dundonald Links

Quick Quotes

GEMMA DRYBURGH: I think I only missed a couple greens.

Q. Flat calm?

GEMMA DRYBURGH: Yes. This is the calmest Scottish Open I think I've seen.

Q. That's the challenge in itself, isn't it?

GEMMA DRYBURGH: Yeah, I guess we're used to links golf being windy and all flying and coming back on line but just kind of go at the pins today.

Q. The greens are a big challenge?

GEMMA DRYBURGH: Yeah, the putts I had were 3 percent slopes and even that's unusual in links golf. So yeah, they are kind of hard to read, actually. Sometimes they don't take the break and sometimes they do. So just trying to get a happy medium.

Q. What is the strongest part of your game?

GEMMA DRYBURGH: Tee-to-green was good. Good off the tee and felt like I was striking it well. Nice to have that turf sound. Different to America. Nice to have that. Felt like I striked it well.

Q. Making a good start is so important, isn't it?

GEMMA DRYBURGH: Yeah, being bogey-free as well as lots of confidence. Feeling happy with where my game is at.

Q. What distance?

GEMMA DRYBURGH: 9 I made probably a 12-, 15-footer, quite a big breaker. The most break I had all day but managed to make that one. Then birdied the par 3, 15. Hit it to eight feet. 6-iron landed in the middle of the green and to that slope on the right. Was quite nice. Then 17 I birdied as well.

Q. 18 was the one that got away?

GEMMA DRYBURGH: Yeah, the shortest birdie putt I had all day.

Q. Is that a hole you can Go for in two?

GEMMA DRYBURGH: I think you can but my caddie and I decided it wasn't worth the risk for me, I'm a little bit shorter. I'm coming in with 3-wood. If you're coming in with less than that you can go for it but 3-wood is too risky for my opinion.

My caddie, Paul Heselden, he knows my game so well and we have been together so long that he knows what to say at the right times which is huge. Gives me a lot of confidence.

Q. What friends and family have you got here today?

GEMMA DRYBURGH: My mom and dad, Paul's partner, Joe, and friends are coming, too early to get up today but they will be here tomorrow.

Q. You didn't feel too much pressure on the tee? How did it feel having friends and family supporting you?

GEMMA DRYBURGH: Makes you feel more comfortable sometimes. They are there to support you whatever happens, they will be there.

It's just great to be back. I said earlier, it's weird playing it so calm. We'll see some wind at some point.

Q. You had wind at the Renaissance, wasn't it?

GEMMA DRYBURGH: Don't remind me. That was brutal. I missed by one with you shot 1-under that day. One of my best rounds ever.

Would be nice to have some wind at some point but you have to be careful what you wish for around here.

Q. Would that give you an advantage?

GEMMA DRYBURGH: Yeah, I hope so. But yeah, the girls are so good out here that if you strike it well, you can play well in the wind.

Q. The course is in excellent condition?

GEMMA DRYBURGH: Yeah, the course is in great condition. No qualms about the course. It's looking really good.
