Quick Quotes
Q. Here with Sophia Schubert. 6-under today. I mean, 65 with those pin positions today is a heck of a score. What did you find at Evian that really worked?
SOPHIA SCHUBERT: Thank you. You know, I just kind of stuck to the same game plan every day. Just hit the fairway, hit the greens. I didn't necessarily attack any of the pins and I was able to roll in some longer putts.
Overall, it was a fun day out there and everything was going well.
Q. Any of those long putts really stand out?
SOPHIA SCHUBERT: Let's see, I'm trying to think. I had the -- I'm like, what did I do?
Yesterday in particular I made a long one on my second hole after I doubled my first hole, which was huge for me and just totally changed my mindset.
And then today on my second hole, No. 11 actually, I made probably a 20-foot putt after I had bogeyed my first hole. I feel like for me that kind of just -- I was able to get that momentum back.
Q. What's the mindset there? Got off to a slow start. Most players are down on themselves, a little upset. To come back and bounce back like that, what do you think about just to keep yourself positive?
SOPHIA SCHUBERT: I just have to tell myself, stay positive. Just keep trucking along. Don't change anything. Don't try to force anything. A lot of the time people, if they've had a couple bad holes, force making a birdie.
Just had to really make sure that I wasn't doing that.
Q. LPGA rookie this year. I mean, it's kind of crazy to be in contention at a major as a rookie. Three back right now. I don't know what Brooke got to, but sitting in a really pretty spot heading into the weekend. Just how exciting is that for you?
SOPHIA SCHUBERT: I'm really excited. I mean, this is what I'm out here for, what I dreamed of for a long time, so I'm excited.
Trying not to be too nervous. I'm a rookie so I'm not used to it, but I'm just going to go out tomorrow and have fun.
Q. This golf course is notoriously tricky. A lot of players, even though they played here, really do struggle around this place. What have you found with some of the sidehill lies, slopey greens, that's really worked?
SOPHIA SCHUBERT: Yeah, a lot of time you do get something way above your feet, way below your feet. I've just worked on those shots. I've played here twice before, once at Evian and once at Palmer Cup, so I knew what to expect.
You can't try to be too perfect. You might get a weird bounce and you just have to roll with it.
Q. Being where you're from, is this the style of golf you get to play a lot?
SOPHIA SCHUBERT: Yeah, it's on the side of a hill. Being from East Tennessee I'm used to that, the undulation and these kinds of greens.
Yeah, I feel like I've had a lot of practice.
Q. Does it feel like home out there just with those kind of golf courses?
SOPHIA SCHUBERT: You know, it does. It does. It's different from like Florida or somewhere it's flat. I'm used to it, so I think being able to grow up on hilly courses has really helped me here.
Q. Heading into Saturday and Sunday, again, like you said, you're a rookie; not really been here before. But that kind of frees you up, let's you go for broke. What is the mindset there heading into the weekend?
SOPHIA SCHUBERT: Yeah, I think just the same thing as the last two days. I mean, whatever is going to happen out there is going to happen, so why not just enjoy the moment and try to give it my best.
Q. Last question: I've seen your mom walking around. Can't miss her, can't miss Mrs. Schubert. How fun is it to share this experience with her?
SOPHIA SCHUBERT: Yeah, it's a lot of fun. She's been there since the start, so being able to share these moments with her is really special for both of us.
