Quick Quotes
Q. You had a really good day, 4-under. What went well for you out there?
NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: I don't know. It was good. I've never played this course good, so I was just staying patient and see if I could hit so good shots.
Q. Awesome. Just anything else? Elaborate. Any good holes or...
NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: No. I mean, it was just really steady. I made a good save here and there and then some easy birdies, some good pars.
Q. How is the course playing now? Is it softer this year after the rain?
NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: Yeah. It was soft. The greens were soft.
Q. Could you fire it in a bit more to the pins?
NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: You could, but you don't really want to here because then you have the slopes and stuff. You kind of want to play on the right spots all the time.
But then again, you can't hit it too far, either. You have to hit those shots, yeah.
Q. The pin positions, were they tricky?
NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: There were a couple, yeah. Yeah.
Q. Do you think that's like smart course management then, like one of your keys to doing well today?
NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: Well, I think you have to trust that you're hitting a good shot, because you cannot just go ten meters left of it because then you have those slopes or something.
So you have to aim where you want to and trust that you're hitting that shot.
Q. And you did.
NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: Sometimes. (Laughter.) There were some bad shots, too.
Q. Playing well then generally at the moment?
NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: Yes. It's getting better. I was in a little down the last two months after couple of good ones, but I'm getting back to it so it's good.
Q. Yeah. Anything new in your life?
NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: No.
Q. No.
NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: Planning a wedding for December. That's about it.
Q. Nicki?
NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: Nicki, yeah.
Q. But he's not caddieing anymore?
NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: He is. He's on the bag. No, no, no, he's here.
Q. Nice.
NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: It's good.
Q. Married in Denmark?
NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: In Denmark, yeah.
Q. Hometown or...
NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: Yes, actually.
Q. Well done. What's Nicki's last name?
NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: Hansen.
Q. That's very Danish. How long have you been together?
NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: Hundred years. No, eight years or something. Nine, eight or nine years.
Q. And he's caddieing for you full time still?
NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: Yeah.
Q. For you the whole eight years basically?
NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: Yeah, well, on LET he still worked back in Denmark, but we didn't have that many tournaments at that time so he could come out a lot. My mom would take a couple.
He caddied for me in Q-School, yeah. Then he started full time probably in '16 -- no, no, '18. Middle of '18.
He wasn't supposed to caddie on LPGA but then I was like, can you please come back? Yeah.
Q. So now he's like full time caddieing?
NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: Yeah, but he actually started a coaching job in a university, Nova Southeastern close to where we live in the U.S.
Q. Nova Southeastern?
NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: Yeah, Fort Lauderdale.
Q. Is that where you live?
NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: We live in Boca, so it's like 30 minutes from there. Yeah, it's good for him that he has something else than caddieing.
Q. Wow, amazing. Nice. Does everybody know that you're getting married?
NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: Yeah, of course.
Q. What's happening in Denmark? All of a sudden the Danes, you're really hot on the course, the men and the ladies.
NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: The men has been doing very well. I feel like every month there is a win from some Dane somewhere on the Challenge Tour or European Tour somewhere.
I don't know. I think it's just a generation. They been doing very well on the National Team in that generation, and I think if you have a lot of good juniors you kind of push each other to become even better.
So, yeah, it's been going very well for Danish golf.
Q. Was there a special program they designed for this -- starting with this generation? Really you guys are everywhere.
NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: I think it just became more structured and more serious -- I wouldn't say it wasn't serious before, but maybe the structure and how they just did things.
Q. Uh-huh.
NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: Like before it was Thomas Biron and there wasn't really a National Team or anything. They just made a National Team and supported us throughout the whole junior, and when you first turn pro they still support you and you can still work with the coach you have as a junior and stuff.
Q. Because that's what I've heard from some other countries. Sometimes you guys get away from your coach, swing goes away.
NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: Yeah, I feel like they put a lot of investment into the players as juniors, so they don't just want to hang them on the street after that. They are still offering teaching and mental coaching and whatever you need in golf.
So they're still a big supporter of us when we turn pro.
Q. That's been seven, eight years now?
NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: More.
Q. Starting a decade ago?
NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: Yeah, so 15 years ago.
Q. What about the Fins?
NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: The Fins been really good lately. Yeah, I don't know what's going on with them.
Q. I was going to say, what's happening over there?
NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: Yeah, I don't know. I think, again, if you see one from your country that you played with as a junior and you feel like I've been competing with her and we been -- you get a confidence that you can do it as well maybe.
So with Matilda winning on LPGA, maybe some others got inspired and stuff. I can't say why, but that could have been the reason why. Every time someone does well it inspires the next generation.
Q. That gives an added motivation that it can be done?
NANNA KOERSTZ MADSEN: Yeah.
