U.S. ADAPTIVE OPEN

July 18, 2022

Trevor Stephens

Village of Pinehurst, North Carolina, USA

Pinehurst Resort & C.C. (Course No. 6)

Quick Quotes

Q. Trevor Stephens, nice playing out there. Can you talk us through your round today?

TREVOR STEPHENS: Yeah, sure. Started out a little shaky in the beginning. It was a combination I think of some nerves and just a few bad swings. Got off to a rough start. Was able to put a better back nine together, started to make a few putts, hit a few nice wedges up there and scrapped it together for a 75.

Q. Bigger picture, how does it feel to be a part of this first ever championship here, obviously the Adaptive Open inaugural event? It's pretty special.

TREVOR STEPHENS: It's amazing. It's actually my first ever adaptive tournament, as well, so it's completely blown me out of the water what's going on here with the USGA, and everyone that's here couldn't be more friendly. Everyone is quick to just say hey and introduce themselves and get a little bit of the background of the story, and it's been fantastic.

Q. How rewarding is it to share the course with so many other inspiring athletes?

TREVOR STEPHENS: It's terrible. I want it all. I want to be the -- no, it's been great. It's impressive. I mean, the practice rounds were fantastic. Saw a couple -- a string of birdies in a row from some people that were completely inspiring.

Then just the stories behind everyone, it's been special.

Q. How do you think overall this championship will help amplify the adaptive community, just the stories that are within?

TREVOR STEPHENS: Yeah, so I know as I said, this was my first, but just from my network of people that know that I am playing in it, it's already kind of -- I have people that I haven't really spoken to in quite some time reaching out saying this is amazing, kind of cheering me on, sending me stories about other people, just root for me. But no, it absolutely will expand the game.
