Futures Game Press Conference
Q. Do you think it helped you at all that you caught Shuster last year in AA?
SHEA LANGELIERS: Yeah, just, you know, knowing the types of pitches that he throws and how he tries to get guys out, I think just having the knowledge of that going into the at-bat and knowing he had a really good changeup, I think gave me an advantage but he's still like a really good pitcher.
Q. Was it a little bit sweeter hitting the home run off of him?
SHEA LANGELIERS: Yeah, maybe a little bit. Just because I know how good he is and it was -- he made my job really easy catching last year. It was cool being on the other side of it.
Q. And what does it mean to you to be named the MVP of the Futures Game?
SHEA LANGELIERS: It's crazy, I came into today just excited to be here, getting to play baseball again at Dodger Stadium, it was awesome.
Q. Have you ever played in a big league park before?
SHEA LANGELIERS: Yes, one time at Truist Park in Atlanta.
Q. Was that a pre-season game or something?
SHEA LANGELIERS: In 2018 for Team USA.
Q. What was this atmosphere year like for you, just being on the field with all of these other future star type players?
SHEA LANGELIERS: It was awesome. Everybody I met was awesome. You know, we kind of mesh over there pretty quick. Good group of guys. We had a blast.
Q. When you think about all the talent that's at this game, and you end up with the MVP Award, not that you didn't already think that you should be in that upper echelon of prospects, but does that strengthen your confidence to know that you sort of stood out amongst this crowd of players?
SHEA LANGELIERS: Yeah, for sure. Like you said, there was a bunch of talented guys out there on the field. It was really easy behind the plate with how good the pitchers were. But everybody out there is a super talented baseball player. At the end of the day, it was just fun to get out there and play a game.
Q. What's more satisfying for you, the home run or throwing the runner out?
SHEA LANGELIERS: Throwing the runner out for sure.
Q. This is such a break in the routine from the season. What does it do mentally to just stop in the season, come here and just meet a lot of players, some of which I assume you know, and some that you're just meeting today?
SHEA LANGELIERS: Yeah, I mean, it was a lot of fun. Like you said, it's kind of like a mental reset. It's a long season. Getting a couple days off here after this. So to come out here and have fun and play a baseball game at Dodger Stadium, it was awesome.
Q. What other big league stadiums have you played in?
SHEA LANGELIERS: Just Truist Park.
Q. Does it make you even more hungry to wonder six months a year two, years from now, when you get there?
SHEA LANGELIERS: Yeah, absolutely. The atmosphere here is crazy.
Q. I know it might seem far off, but Rodriguez played in this game last year and now he's an All-Star. Does it make you think about sort of your path and potentially getting there yourself?
SHEA LANGELIERS: You know, I think at the end of the day, I just try to focus on what I can control. You know, just it's such a long season. If you don't go day-by-day and you start looking ahead, it could get away from you. You control what you can control and try to get a little bit better each day.
Q. Any players from this clubhouse or the other team you were looking forward to meeting or watching on the field?
SHEA LANGELIERS: It was nice to get to know Dillon Dingler, the other catcher. He's a really good ballplayer. To have that catcher camaraderie and brotherhood, it was cool getting to know him.
Q. Did you have family here today?
SHEA LANGELIERS: My dad's here.
Q. What's your dad's name?
SHEA LANGELIERS: Steve.
