THE 150TH OPEN

July 16, 2022

Si Woo Kim

St Andrews, Fife, Scotland, UK

Mixed Zone

Q. So you made a difficult course on a difficult day with lots of pressure look quite easy. Just talk us through your round there?

SI WOO KIM: It was a tough day. And then I was a couple of shots that were lucky. And it was the last six holes really hard and starting windy.

But I was putting good today. So I think that's why like keep save, save, save. That makes me a little easier.

Q. With 16 and 17 playing really hard today. You got through that pretty well. That's a challenge.

SI WOO KIM: Yeah, 16, 17 was really hard because the pin position was incredible. So, yes, 17 was hard, too, because like windy. We got to hit it a little left side of the tee shot because a little narrow right and rough. But that pin is so hard to hit it.

Q. You shot 67 today, which is one of the best rounds. Are you aware of what was happening around you with the leaders?

SI WOO KIM: The leaders like 16, but, yeah, I don't care about leaders or what score I am. That's why I was trying to do it today and it worked. So I hope trying to do the same tomorrow too.

Q. Is your philosophy just concentrate on your game? And just explain that, don't focus on the others?

SI WOO KIM: Yeah, so like always the last group, or second to last group, always see the little leaderboard. So that makes me a little choke up. So I'm just trying to play by myself and focus on my shot.

Q. Was there any funny moments with the crowd? Was it good fun? Did you enjoy the round?

SI WOO KIM: Yeah, I would say enjoyed it. And 17, I left it -- my ball was like on the front edge of the green. So I just tried to make bogey or whatever, just try the flop shot on the frontside green. I think that's the fun moments, that par save.

Q. So we spoke to Jordan Spieth earlier. He says he likes to have an ice bath every night during his tournament, which is, that's what he does. He has an ice bath every night just to relax and he feels energised the next day. What do you like to do in between rounds?

SI WOO KIM: I like to do, in summer, but it's not for here, for me. But I always like play -- if I play early, have a lot of time, I play a video game and watching Netflix, everything. Trying to chill.

Q. Do you support an English Premier League team? Do you support football teams?

SI WOO KIM: Yes, I'm a big Man United fan. I travel a 10-, 12-hour flight to watch Manchester United game.

Q. So you're not very happy at the moment?

SI WOO KIM: Yes. (Laughter).

Q. Finally, in Korean, can you explain how happy you are with your round today? Is six shots too much tomorrow?

SI WOO KIM: (Speaking Korean).

Q. And in English?

SI WOO KIM: Six shots is a lot, but never know here. And someone shoot three, some will shoot three. Anything can happen, but I don't think about like leaders, anything.
