Quick Quotes

Q. Here with team Ain't Your Mama. I know the two of you have been excited for this tournament and to be paired together for the last couple of weeks, but could you have expected a 59 on a day like this? Sarah Jane, I just want to start with you. You two were so excited in the scoring tent. Just the feelings of today for you?

SARAH JANE SMITH: I think genuinely it's the most fun I've had on the golf course. I always love playing with Mariajo. To have her on my team today was extra fun. It's so unnatural for me to first pump. I've never been able to figure it out. I think I actually gave a little like, Ahhh a couple times today.

Q. For you, Mariajo, what was today like for you?

MARIAJO URIBE: I knew coming into the week what Sarah Jane can do. If I could just cheer her up and be a cheerleader and kind of get my excitement going in for her, I knew we could shoot low, and today that's how it felt.

I helped a little bit at the end, but pretty much it was her the whole round and I was just trying to make par so that she could be aggressive with her putting.

It was just unbelievable to watch and just fun.

Q. Was that the key for today, Sarah Jane? The back nine looked impressive from a scorecard perspective.

SARAH JANE SMITH: Just combined, when I was out of a hole, you birdied it. It wasn't like you just parred it. We really blended well together all day.

Mariajo is so consistent, so it was like she was within two-putt range at the very worst all day. I always had a chance to go at it if I was hitting next or vice versa. We just worked perfectly all day.

Q. Mariajo, no bogeys on your side of the scorecard either; as Sarah Jane said, a very consistent day. What were some of the highlights between the two of you? Which holes out there were you impressed with?

MARIAJO URIBE: I think our big hole for me was No. 6 that we were all trying to fight for par. It was like the first time we both got in trouble, and I made a huge putt for par and it was just like -- we were, like, okay, we got this. We need to get this going and keep going.

We knew -- I knew we had a low round there, but yesterday we really struggled with putting, so it was nice to see some putts going in. And our other team that was playing with us was putting good too, so that also really helps out.

Q. I was going to say, Sarah Jane, playing alongside an Aussie in the group, was that nice to have another Australian in the grouping there?

SARAH JANE SMITH: Yeah, absolutely. It's always nice to play with another Aussie. It was a really fun balance between the two.

MARIAJO URIBE: It was like a mirror grouping.

Q. I was going to say, Daniela...

MARIAJO URIBE: Yeah, almost the same flag. My caddie speaks Spanish to me, her caddie speaks Spanish to her, and we were hitting on the same shots yesterday, odds and even.

It looked like we were literally the same group, but just different people.

Q. As you know, your team name, Ain't Your Mama, you both have little ones. What's it like to be out here kind of showing these young people how it's done with a 59 today?

SARAH JANE SMITH: It's awesome. We're so lucky to have the Smuckers Day Care Center and be able to travel as a family. We couldn't do that without them. So, I mean, we're so grateful for that, but to be able to do what we love and be moms at the same time, it doesn't get any better.

MARIAJO URIBE: Exactly. It's Theo's birthday next week, so it's a special one for him, so we're hoping to get a good weekend and at least he is going to get to see us walk in with our walk-up song tomorrow.

It's definitely fun playing with another mom that gets it. Our conversations in the fairway are a little different than other players out here, but it's been just fun.

Q. What has the conversation been like?

MARIAJO URIBE: We've talked about everything. Potty training. I asked her today how early did you give him sweets? Just random stuff.

SARAH JANE SMITH: I'm not going to publicly announce that.

MARIAJO URIBE: Just mom things. Talking about traveling with them, different stuff.

SARAH JANE SMITH: Yeah. Even just the last I was, like, do you have one of those buggy wheelie things?

MARIAJO URIBE: I'm, like, I wish we could do more stuff. We probably don't own those things because we don't have that much time off, but it's been nice to play with another mom for sure.

Q. And one last one for me, but even though this tournament has only been going on for two years, you guys are only the fourth group to ever shoot a 59 or lower. What does that do for the rest of this weekend knowing that you guys are up there in contention after a day like this? What does it do for your confidence for the both of you?

SARAH JANE SMITH: I mean, I think we -- we were both talking about it. I felt like if we would have been able to play this format first and then alternate shot might have been made yesterday a little easier.

I think tomorrow will be a much easier day.

MARIAJO URIBE: We got that round out of the way. I feel like today definitely helps us. Yesterday when we were done, we didn't think we played that bad. Just the score didn't show.

SARAH JANE SMITH: Right.

MARIAJO URIBE: It's nice to be up there, to be able to play the weekend, and now we kind of got the hang of it.

SARAH JANE SMITH: Yeah, I agree.

Q. All right. Well, fantastic job today, ladies. Best of luck tomorrow.
