Quick Quotes
Q. Here with the Kordas, Team Jelly as I remember. Nelly, I'll start off with you. What was this first day like for the two of you?
NELLY KORDA: A lot of consistency. Good shots, good putts, a couple of good par saves. Kind of picked up one or two I think throughout the round.
JESSICA KORDA: Yeah.
NELLY KORDA: But I think alternate shot under par, especially with the weather that we were playing through or we were going to play through as well was good.
Q. Definitely an interesting day out there when it comes to that rain. Jess, you talked about some of the par saves. What were some of the highlights for you as you made your way around Midland?
JESSICA KORDA: Nelly made a lot of clutch putts. I know one on 10 for sure. What was the other one, do you remember?
NELLY KORDA: 8.
JESSICA KORDA: I made a really good one over here on I think it's 14. We're kind of ham and egging it pretty well. It was the first day, but alternate shot is tough, and you forget how out of rhythm you get in alternate shot.
I think the first day is always kind of the toughest because you are trying to find your footing in it. But yeah, take under par. Anything under par is always good.
Q. You know each other's games so well. Nelly, what is it about Jess' game this year that's really suiting for the course?
NELLY KORDA: I think we have a very similar kind of game. We hit it pretty similarly off the tee distance-wise, so I think we mesh really well like that.
She's clutch on the putting green for sure. I always trust her out there. (Laughing).
JESSICA KORDA: You were pretty clutch today too.
NELLY KORDA: I think we mesh really well, like she said. We have pretty consistent games, and I think that's what makes us flow so well.
Q. Jess, being able to have an event like this before some of the onslaught that we'll see in the next couple of events of the summer swing, what does it mean for you to be able to have this kind of week before the majors coming up?
JESSICA KORDA: It's just fun. Any time we get to team up has been awesome, and obviously with my injury and Nelly's medical, you know, it's -- we needed an event, and this was just a really fun one for us to be able to add on to our schedule.
We were really excited that we got to team up again. Yeah, three more days of this.
Q. All right.
JESSICA KORDA: Hopefully.
Q. How does it feel having to have everything back in full form because, you know, before they weren't allowed to have people attend the event, but now you are actually playing in front of an audience.
JESSICA KORDA: Really?
NELLY KORDA: I think last year we already did play in front of an audience.
JESSICA KORDA: Yeah.
Q. Just Dow-specific. This is back open to the public.
NELLY KORDA: Oh really? I didn't know that. Yeah, it's really nice. I think the entire city of Midland really gets behind this event. It's fun. I feel like every single time we come to Michigan all the events are supported really well, and we enjoy playing golf here.
JESSICA KORDA: There was a huge line in the pouring rain when we were pulling in.
NELLY KORDA: What are they doing?
JESSICA KORDA: People coming in and scanning in at, what was it, like, 7:30? I was, like, oh, no, no, no.
NELLY KORDA: That would not be me.
JESSICA KORDA: That's dedication right there. Yeah, it's really cool. I mean, a lot of people out there already. It's a Wednesday, so we're excited to see what the rest of the week has.
Q. Best ball coming up tomorrow. Any sort of game plan heading in? Are you just hoping for the best?
JESSICA KORDA: That one.
NELLY KORDA: Yeah, hoping for the best. That's for sure.
Q. That will do it. Great job today, ladies.
NELLY KORDA: Thank you.
JESSICA KORDA: Thank you.
