Press Conference
P. KVITOVA/J. Paolini
2-6, 6-4, 6-2
THE MODERATOR: Petra, tough match today. But how were you feeling out there?
PETRA KVITOVA: Now I feel much better (smiling).
Yeah, it was tough one with different conditions and transition from Eastbourne here, playing different opponent as well. It was really tough.
I don't know how I made it, but probably was just the fighting spirit today. Probably the strongest how I beat everything and beat my opponent.
THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.
Q. You said in the past that you often feel nervous here at Wimbledon in recent years. After that first set, were you thinking, Oh, no, not again?
PETRA KVITOVA: I'm always thinking every year like this (laughter).
I've been nervous, but I had worst days here, for sure. I think I felt a little bit better because of the Eastbourne tournament, how I played there. But here, it's different. Even the grass is different. I think it's a bit slower.
Yeah, always the first rounds are just tough. That's what I expected. On the other hand I was telling myself that Jasmine is not really grass court player. She prefer more a clay court. I had tougher draws here before.
I knew that I have game to beat her somehow. Of course, with the nerves and I didn't have serve today at all. So I lost it probably in Eastbourne or I don't know.
Yeah, it was a bit tough.
Q. Generally do you feel your confidence is much better now after what you did at Eastbourne?
PETRA KVITOVA: Yeah, for sure. I think so. I had a great five matches in a row which I didn't have whole season. For sure it's help me.
On the other hand this is different tournament, different week. Tennis, it's pretty tricky in this case. Well, not really tricky for Iga, as we see, but for other ones it is.
It's just different. It's different conditions, different grass. Everything is just very similar but still different. We can feel it.
I hope that next match can be a little bit better hopefully.
