C. GARCIA/E. Raducanu
6-3, 6-3
THE MODERATOR: Your initial thoughts about today's match?
CAROLINE GARCIA: Yeah, I mean, I'm definitely very happy with my performance today. I knew it was going to be a tough match, and to play on Centre Court is never easy for the first time. I'm really pleased with the way I played my match and I went for it.
THE MODERATOR: Questions in English.
Q. You played a really good match today. When you drew Emma Raducanu, when the draw came out, you saw you were playing Emma...
CAROLINE GARCIA: I don't watch the draw, so...
Q. When you heard you were playing her, she's obviously quite a high seed, but did you think, that's a match I can win?
CAROLINE GARCIA: Yeah, it's a match I can win, like every match I can win, and I can lose every match, as well (smiling).
Of course when you play someone who played very well in the past in this tournament, and she's obviously very successful in big events, I know she was going to play her best today. She was on Centre Court, it's my first time, so I was just really trying to be focused on myself, how I could prepare, and wait for the best from her and just be prepared of my game what I wanted to do, be aggressive and just try one point at a time.
Q. Was there anything that you spotted from her first match -- I don't know if you look at videos -- did you watch her first match a bit and...
CAROLINE GARCIA: My coach did; I didn't.
Q. Did your coach pass on those thoughts to you?
CAROLINE GARCIA: Big secrets. I will not tell you.
Q. I was just wondering, when Raducanu came on the tour, a lot of people didn't really know her game...
CAROLINE GARCIA: Pretty much no one knew her (smiling).
Q. I think that worked in her favor a bit. Just wondering what you took from playing her the first time earlier this year, and how that helped you to know what to expect when you got on the court?
CAROLINE GARCIA: Yeah, I think when you are young and you are coming up and obviously no one knows you, it's always positive points on your side, because you can analyze a lot your opponent and know how is it played.
But obviously it's pretty tricky most of the time to find video or good quality matches where you can watch how they are doing. But it's the same for everybody, pretty much.
Then obviously everyone knows you, especially when you are doing great, which is her case. It's positive that most of the people knows you.
Obviously I learn a little bit some stuff when I played against her in the U.S. and tried to learn from my loss and makes things better. It was different surface today, so it's very different.
But I really tried to be more focused on myself than on my opponent.
Q. In the past, I know you weren't always a fan of playing on Chatrier.
CAROLINE GARCIA: Yeah.
Q. This is a new big court.
CAROLINE GARCIA: Yeah, that's what I said to my team afterwards, I'm, like, I'm very pleased that I play my first big match in Centre Court and I got the win, because I don't have great memories from my first step on the other center court of slams like either US Open or Australian Open, and French Open, as well.
It's experience, you know. You learn from everything. I'm obviously very happy that today I played a full match from the first point to the last one.
