Wimbledon, London, UK
Press Conference
P. BADOSA/I. Bara
6-3, 6-2
THE MODERATOR: Just your initial thoughts on today's match.
PAULA BADOSA: Really happy about the match today. I think I played pretty well. It was a tricky opponent. I think she's a very tricky opponent, as I said, very tough player. I played her before and it was really tough, so I'm really happy I could get through in two sets.
THE MODERATOR: Questions in English.
Q. Are you surprised at how well you're doing here? Obviously it's not your favorite -- I don't think it's your favorite surface.
PAULA BADOSA: No, it's not (smiling).
Q. Are you surprised? Also, I would imagine coming in sort of low expectations for you, and obviously people, because of how you feel about this surface, do you like it that way? Do you prefer it, make it a little easier for you?
PAULA BADOSA: I don't know if I'm surprised or not. Last year I did pretty well here. I won pretty good matches.
It's not my favorite surface, but especially when we talk about grass is not my favorite, but playing in Wimbledon, I really like it. It's a little bit different as the other tournaments coming through here.
I never felt bad playing here, to be honest, not even in juniors or last year. So maybe I'm surprised or not, maybe I'm more surprised how I was coming here after the injury in the last tournament, so I'm really happy about that. If I prefer to have low expectations or not, of course, because you feel a little bit with less pressure.
But I'm focused on myself and on trying to win every match, trying to win every game, every point. That's my main goal. And let's see how it goes next one.
Q. Knowing Petra's history at Wimbledon, what are your thoughts about facing her? The keys to your match?
PAULA BADOSA: Yeah, she plays very well on grass. She won last week. I practice with her on grass, as well, so I know what I'm going to find out there.
She's with confidence, as well, but I think I have the game that I could do a tough match against her. Of course I think I will have my opportunities there.
Yeah, let's see. I will give everything on court. I will fight. I will compete. Let's see how it goes.
Q. Wimbledon's policy of all-white clothing, would you like to see any changes to the all-white policy?
PAULA BADOSA: No, I think it's nice and it's traditional. It's always different. I think grass courts, as well, it's a different part of the season. It's nice like that, I think, to play like this. One or two weeks per year, it's always nice and unique.
Q. Just wondering, we have seen a few players have to withdraw from the tournament because of COVID. I'm wondering, what is your level of worry about that?
PAULA BADOSA: They asked me that on the press on the first day. Zero, because I had all that type of COVIDs possible (laughter). I think I'm safe on that.
I had vaccination, as well. So in my case, if I have it again, I mean, it will be very bad luck, but I don't think so, because as I said before, I had all of them. I'm safe (smiling).
