Press Conference
S. HALEP/A. Anisimova
6-2, 6-4
THE MODERATOR: Amanda, give us your thoughts on the match today.
AMANDA ANISIMOVA: Yeah, I think Simona was playing very well, as always. I just couldn't step up my game, or I did very late. It was just too late, so...
THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.
Q. You made the fourth at Oz, the French as well, then get the quarterfinals, you must be pleased that you have your consistency back.
AMANDA ANISIMOVA: Yeah, for sure. If I look at the positives, I've done well this year. But I'm upset with today because I could have played a lot better. But I'll just learn from the experience.
Q. A set and 4-1 down, you were quite usual emotional at the chair. A game later you cut loose and went for it. You must be pleased how you fought back there.
AMANDA ANISIMOVA: Yeah, I think that I was quite stressed in this match. I don't know. I just felt very stiff and frozen. I got very emotional in the chair because I wasn't performing very well. I don't really like playing not to the fullest of my abilities, especially in such a packed stadium. It's very disappointing for me. So I was very upset.
But then I just tried to figure out how I could play better. Yeah, I started getting a little bit looser and go for my shots more and put up a fight.
Q. What do you think got you so stressed? You're up against a tough opponent. But was it the surroundings? The occasion? That you're so young?
AMANDA ANISIMOVA: I don't know. It just happens, I guess. You can't be stress-free in every single match. Just today was that way.
Yeah, I mean, stepping onto the court, I wasn't as nervous as I was in Coco because that was the first time I stepped on to the court.
It was just a bit different today. Simona is just very tough to play. It's hard to figure out how to play your best tennis against her.
Q. What thoughts do you have about what you'll take from this Wimbledon experience toward future Grand Slams?
AMANDA ANISIMOVA: Yeah, with every Grand Slam I play, I think I learn a couple lessons. For sure it's beneficial for my experience. Just taking that and taking it into the next Grand Slam I play.
But I think I have to work on my nerves, for sure, just stepping up with every single match I play. Today I was trying to be too aggressive from the beginning because that was my game plan. I'll just learn from it and I think my game will come together eventually.
Q. You're a great second-serve returner. Today didn't seem like it was working too well against Simona. Is that something she was doing with her serve, not being relaxed...
AMANDA ANISIMOVA: I don't know. I think my arm was just nonexistent today (smiling). I just couldn't feel it. I was just missing such easy returns, yeah. I don't know.
