Quick Quotes
Q. Back-to-back starts where you had the 54-hole lead and turned that into a victory, every win is different, what did it take today to get it done?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Yeah, it's stressful. Not going to put makeup on the pig here. It was a very average day. Probably my worst this week. Austin kept me calm. Yesterday I told you, as boring as it is, you really can't get of yourself in links golf, I was ahead, I was behind, I was ahead, I was behind. Just kept my head down.
Q. You have wins all over the world, seven wins now on the PGA TOUR, two on the DP World Tour, but what does it mean to win in the Home of Golf?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Yeah, it's special. It's different playing over here. You've got to play golf differently. The fans are incredible. They pushed me long all day and this is definitely a nice win for my team and myself.
Q. Share with us your initial reaction.
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: It's an incredible feeling. Big sense of relief. Once that par went in on 17, it was not full relief, but nice to hit a couple long irons into the green and lag it up there with a 2-putt.
It was a very stressful day and this is very rewarding.
Q. Start of the day, three-shot buffer, by the turn you were trailing by one, and we know how difficult the closing stretch is at the Renaissance Club. Give us an idea of your thought process and what was going through your mind at that sage.
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: I was trying to find something. Every time I wanted to cut it I hit it way right and every time I wanted to draw it I hit it way left. At least it was going the correct direction, but it was going, you know, miles apart.
And it was nice to sort of hit a few better shots coming down the stretch and kind of calm the ship here. It was looking pretty bad for a bit but this one is extra special because of that.
Q. This is a landmark week, the two biggest tours in the world coming together for the very first time and to do it here in the Home of Golf in Scotland, could you try and summarise what this win means to you?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: It's incredible. I mean, just look around, the fans, they have been pushing me along all day. This is the first event of co-sanctioned events and it's just an honour to win the first one.
