The Renaissance Club
Quick Quotes
Q. Well-played and well done, but I sense a little disappointment, 18, what's your evaluation of the day?
RYAN PALMER: Yeah, really good day. Played really solid golf. Hit a lot of nice shots. I feel like I left two or three for sure on the back nine, some putts I had coming in, one on 15, parred 16, hit a short been on 13 and of course unfortunate horseshoe on the last. Stay within myself.
My Saturdays haven't been great as of late so told myself coming in, stay patient, stay calm and let's change our strategy on Saturdays maybe and just play better golf. All in all a good day.
Q. For a man from Amarillo coming and playing in the wind, tell us with how that fits with where you grew up.
RYAN PALMER: Yeah, I grew up in rural Texas, flat, a lot of wind, so I learned to hit a lot of creative shots, low shots. I love coming over here. Love playing this golf course. Great week last year. I just love this golf because there's so many shots you can hit. You have to really be creative.
It's a good feeling when I get here, and that's what I've enjoyed the most playing this Renaissance Club and I'm excited for tomorrow.
Q. You have a chance to win this tournament tomorrow, you're no stranger to success at the top level but also up for grabs an opportunity to qualify for The Open; what would that mean?
RYAN PALMER: For sure, 150th Open at St Andrews, it was on the list at the beginning of the year. Has not been a great year, but I knew coming in here if I played well and gave myself a chance I could possibly get one of those three spots. So I've done that, I'm here, and you know, I'm going to go out and try to win this golf tournament. I know I can still win at the age of 45 and I love playing out here on the PGA TOUR.
Q. I guess it wouldn't have been the way you would have liked to have ended but nonetheless, sitting pretty at 4-under, how do you evaluate your 54-hole score?
RYAN PALMER: It's great. I love where I'm at. Great day today. I played really a lot of good golf. Putted really well today like I wanted to, and I'll have two or three out there on the back nine, some short putts on 13 and 15, parring 16, and unfortunate horseshoe on 18 for par.
But in a great spot. Love what I'm doing with the golf ball, what I'm doing on the greens, and it's a matter of just staying within myself tomorrow and not worry about what's at stake. Obviously winning this golf tournament, but a chance to get to The Open next week. Go play my game and see where it stands.
