Quick Quotes
Q. I'm sure not what you wanted coming to Scotland and missing the cut. Can you talk about the two days and what you're going to take out of this?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Well, today I actually played fine. I got a couple really bad breaks on the front nine. Outside of that, I really -- I played fine today. Yesterday was the day where I played just absolutely horrendous.
Going to next week, I feel like I'm still in a pretty good spot. A couple things to work on but I feel like I'm in a good spot.
Q. What are they?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Just a lot of putting. My speed was off this week. Really gave away a ton of shots yesterday.
Then today I played, actually, quite solid. Just got so windy out there. It was crazy. It was hard to make birdies, especially when I wasn't making any putts. It's tough.
Q. You spoke earlier in the week about the fact that you still are learning on-the-job when it comes to links golf. What do you feel you take from this week?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Definitely learned a lot. I had some trouble kind of going into the greens playing the bounce and judging stuff like that, and you know, I felt like when I wanted -- thought it was going to be firm when it was a little soft, and when I thought it was soft, it was a little firm. Got on the wrong side of things more often than not this week.
Going into next week, if I clear up a few things with the putter, I'll be ready to go.
Q. What are the two things, or you said you had a couple bad bounces today?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Well, it's like you hit the ball a little bit off-line and sometimes it goes into a pot bunker, and other times it goes into the hay and your fine.
I remember yesterday my first -- I missed my first fairway on our 13th hole and I had to take an unplayable, and it was like ten yards off the fairway and stuff like that. Today, I missed my drive barely on 1 and it goes in a pot bunker.
And we get to 7 and I hit a really good shot into the green, and happens to just roll over and it gets into a spot where it's like there's almost a bush behind my ball, a toe, a putter, from 30 feet behind the green. That's one of those deals where it's like, probably shouldn't have had to toe a putter from there, but sometimes it's the breaks you get.
Sometimes you're on the right side of them and sometimes you're on the wrong ones. Like be No. 9 I hit in a pot bunker and didn't really have a swing and hit a great shot, and it gets a bad bounce and stuff happens after that. I actually played a really good back nine to give myself a chance to birdie 18 to make the cut. Ultimately didn't happen.
