Quick Quotes
Q. How would you characterize the round today?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: A little slow. I thought I was pretty steady for the most part. I would love to have that tee ball back on 13. For the most part I knew it wasn't going to be easy to protect a lead, especially when it's five shots and it's easy to get comfortable. It's easy to hit it to 30 feet out here with a wedge. But that's just not going to be enough to win. So I got to make a few more birdies tomorrow.
Q. Was that just kind of one bad swing there on 13?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Yeah, I'm going to go hit some balls right now. I pulled a 9-iron on 9. I pulled a 7-iron on 10. 11 was a gap wedge. 12 was a draw 3-wood. And then up on the plate there with a fade on the tee ball there. So just a couple bad swings on cuts and kind of over correcting and a really bad swing there.
Q. Can you describe your relationship with Patrick, what it's like to be teammates with him and what you anticipate tomorrow?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Yeah, it will be fun. I've been looking forward to playing with Pat in a final round. We don't get paired together very often in regular tournaments, only in those team ones. So there's a certain level of comfort we have playing with each other and hopefully that pays off and hopefully we can make a lot of birdies.
Q. What sets him apart as a golfer?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: He's surgical. Does all the things really well. Very steady. Easy guy to follow off the tee, obviously. Yeah, he just doesn't make many mistakes. So I'm going to have to make more birdies.
Q. Would you try to stay out of an 8-hole playoff tomorrow?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: He has more experience than I do in that department.
Q. Why do you think you guys click so well? You became friends at the Presidents Cup, what made you guys click?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: We sort of, we play golf in a similar fashion. We see eye to eye on several topics and a lot of commonalities. Our girls get along great. We really enjoy spending time together in those team events and outside of golf as well.
Q. When you're playing with a friend like that on the course, he's a steady player too. Does that push you or make your more comfortable?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: Yeah, I can only get as comfortable as I'm going to be. I think it probably helps that I'm playing with him, since I kind of know his game really well. I can kind of club off him, if anything. It's going to be a lot of fun tomorrow. I've been looking forward to hashing it out with Pat not on a Tuesday.
Q. Your thoughts on Michael Thorbjornsen and being on the leaderboard at such a young age and being in the mix?
XANDER SCHAUFFELE: I heard sort of -- I think I saw his name at the U.S. Open. I don't know too many young guys. I saw a few that played in Arizona in the NCAA finals. I think just the talent coming out is going to be incredible and I think he's one of those guys that will be up there leading the pack.
