Quick Quotes
Q. Off to a good start. How would you assess that round today?
WEBB SIMPSON: Yeah, it was a great start. Yeah, we had a great group. Rory played great, Kevin played great. We kind of fed off each other. I think the holes started looking bigger and bigger to us. A lot of putts were made. But it was a fun day. No bogeys. I can't remember the last time I had a bogey-free round, so it feels nice. Tried to make bogey on the last but got up-and-down. But you know, it wasn't easy. The wind was swirling. It's picking up a little bit right now. So I feel great, solid all around I would say.
Q. This event has missed the crowds the last couple years. Nice to have the atmosphere back?
WEBB SIMPSON: Very nice. This has always been one of the best stops on TOUR for just fan involvement. Obviously the group I was playing today, a lot of guys come out to watch Rory play. We had a great group and some great noise out there.
Q. We've heard guys talk about slip streaming behind the guys that they're playing along with and they bring each other along, play good golf. Rory shoots 62 and you're right there with him. Do you feel like, I know it's Thursday, but I've got to keep up with this on a golf course like this?
WEBB SIMPSON: Not really. You know, maybe on Sunday. But this is a golf course where if the wind lays down a little, scores will be low.
Yeah, you certainly feel like if you shot 1- to 2-under today you might be playing catch-up the next few rounds. But yeah, feels great to get off to a great round like that.
Q. How much did the wind change things as you played the round? It seemed like the last five or six holes it became more of a factor?
WEBB SIMPSON: Yeah, I would say it was pretty constant all day hit 9 but it was a right pin with a right-to-left wind. Those are tough.
But it's just part of it. Greens are receptive enough to where I think you're going to still see some low scores this afternoon.
Q. Webb, just wanted to ask you about the new FedExCup Playoff format that the TOUR announced yesterday and what's your opinion on that?
WEBB SIMPSON: I love it. I think it's going to make the TOUR more competitive. I think your regular season matters a lot now, matters even more next year. 125 to 70 is a big jump, but I think it's necessary.
I think we'll see better events and more excitement at the end of the year.
