THE AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

June 16, 2022

Laurenz Schiergen

Lancashire, England, United Kingdom

Quick Quotes

Q. You're through to the quarterfinals of the Amateur championship. How does that feel?

LAURENZ SCHIERGEN: Really good. Couldn't be happier, and looking forward to playing tomorrow.

Q. It's a marathon of a week. What's been the key to your success so far?

LAURENZ SCHIERGEN: I just had a good friend of behind who was caddying for me yesterday and this morning, he had to go home in the afternoon but I managed it alone. Yeah, just staying patient and having fun and just enjoying playing on such a nice course.

Q. You're flying the flag for Germany. How does it feel to be the lone ranger?

LAURENZ SCHIERGEN: It feels good. I mean, I would prefer if we had a couple ones left, but yeah, I hope I can win a couple more matches now.

Q. What would it mean to not only you but your country if you were to go all the way at The Amateur Championship?

LAURENZ SCHIERGEN: I believe I would be the first one but there's still a long way to go. Yeah, it would be nice.

Q. Never had a German winner?

LAURENZ SCHIERGEN: Just runner-up so far. I hope I'm right.

Q. What's so special about the course? You enjoy it as well?

LAURENZ SCHIERGEN: With all the tradition and history here, so many good players have already played here, and it's just nice to come out every day. That's probably definitely a key to success this week, just enjoy and being able to play the course every day.

Q. What's the biggest achievement of your amateur career so far?

LAURENZ SCHIERGEN: I've won like Henry Cooper Trophy three or four in England, big tournament. The other big achievements have been more in Germany. So nice to get one outside of Germany again.
