THE AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

June 15, 2022

Sandy Scott

Lancashire, England, United Kingdom

Quick Quotes

Q. How pleased are you with that into the last 32?

SANDY SCOTT: Really pleased. I played some solid golf at the start of today's round, a little bit more scrappy coming in but pleased with the result.

Q. What was the keys? You obviously got up fairly early the front nine.

SANDY SCOTT: Yeah, I was just making par at worst, and I threw in a couple birdies and got up, 4-up through, I think it was 11.

Q. Up-and-down from the bunker?

SANDY SCOTT: I was in the green-side bunker. Hit it on to six feet and holed it for birdie and that got me to 4-up. Yeah, I was just trying to play steady golf from there and make a couple birdies coming in. Yeah, it was good.

Q. You've played a few Lytham Trophies, so are you familiar with the layout?

SANDY SCOTT: One Lytham Trophy. I'm familiar with the course. It's a great track. I definitely see great value in being strategic and having good course management and knowing where you can be aggressive and where you can't. It tests you mentally all day. Great course, and yeah, I love it.

Q. What's it like what you've been through to be back under the gun in competition. Have you got the juices flowing again?

SANDY SCOTT: Yeah, that's the bit I missed most. Being nervous, playing against the best amateurs in the world, that's what I really missed. So it's great to be in that environment again. Yeah, hopefully I can keep it going.

Q. Without going too deep into it, it's basically two years of the wrist problem? When did it first start?

SANDY SCOTT: I first started noticing some pain probably July two years ago. So it's been close to two years I've been dealing with it but I was fully out of the game for about 18 months and it was the hardest time of my life. I'm just grateful to be back playing golf again and really, really happy that I'm here.

Q. Did you have two surgeries or one?

SANDY SCOTT: I had two surgeries.

Q. So you must hope that that's successful; that type of injury for a golfer.

SANDY SCOTT: Yeah, the second surgery, it was almost like a last hoorah in my mind. Two surgeries is a lot to come back From. I've made it to this point and it's the best I could possibly have thought of. I just hope it keeps going and I'll continue to do my stuff to keep it in check. I've been doing rehab over a year. It's pretty tiresome but it's well worth it for me to get to this point. Warm it up a little bit and yeah, just got to be smart with how much volume I'm doing golf-wise, practice-wise.

So it's good for me for my rest standpoint, I get in what I need to do and get out when I need to get out. It's helped me in a lot of ways actually.

Q. The last 32, you've probably seen the prize on offer at the end of this. That must give you a buzz given what you've been through as well?

SANDY SCOTT: Absolutely. The prize is great. To win this competition would be great. But yeah, like I said, it's just unbelievable that I'm even here competing and yeah I'm just enjoying having the competitive juices going and yeah, missed it a lot.
