Quick Quotes
Q. Some day for you?
GUSTAV FRIMODT: Very long day.
Q. When did the day start at?
GUSTAV FRIMODT: Well, I woke up at 5.20. I had to get some breakfast and I was a little bit stressed because it was super early. I wasn't really awake, I guess.
Q. 7.09 tee time?
GUSTAV FRIMODT: It was super early. I was out here like an hour before and just did my warmup. Got ready.
Q. Have you played The Amateur before?
GUSTAV FRIMODT: I haven't. It's really challenging. I love it. It's a great, great place and a great event.
Q. So you got through on the plus-one last night?
GUSTAV FRIMODT: I did.
Q. The qualifying Mark. You win this morning, and then you played a guy who finished second last night in qualifying. And you've just taken out Barclay Brown, so pretty good day all around?
GUSTAV FRIMODT: Yeah, it was definitely a good day. I just kind of kept my head cool. I only made one bogey today through the whole day, so that's kind of what you have to do out here.
Q. That's a big win. Obviously Walker Cup background and playing so well in qualifying, how pleased are to you win?
GUSTAV FRIMODT: Yeah, it's awesome. He's obviously a great player. Everyone knows that. I just kind of went out, low expectations, just play my game and see wherever it took me.
Q. What was the key to that success against Barclay?
GUSTAV FRIMODT: I feel like I was in play all the time. I scrambled really good. But obviously just I wasn't really in trouble and if I was in trouble, I was really, really good at getting up-and-down.
So yeah, I just didn't really make any bogeys and made a couple birdies.
Q. So Amateur debut, into the top 32, do you start dreaming?
GUSTAV FRIMODT: Yeah, but I'm in the stage where I'm pleased to be here and see wherever it takes me, how far I can get. Kind of take the same mindset I've had the whole tournament through the next couple rounds.
Q. And that Danish accent seems to be wearing off a little bit. Tell me the U.S. college you're at?
GUSTAV FRIMODT: Yeah, I'm playing at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. I just finished my junior year. Going into my senior year now and yeah, so that's why my accent isn't really there anymore.
Q. How old are you?
GUSTAV FRIMODT: 23.
Q. So where have you grown up playing your golf in Denmark?
GUSTAV FRIMODT: So I grew up in a little town called Glamsbjerg just outside of the city called Odense. Played in a little golf club called Vestfyns Golfklub and then I moved to own is a golf club and now I'm playing in the Great Northern. It's a little further away from me but great place.
Q. This is obviously a different challenge as well, playing links golf.
GUSTAV FRIMODT: I've played a couple links courses. I played the Irish Am twice at Royal County Down. It's an awesome place. I played the Carris Trophy at Hunstanton. So that's the only places I've really played links golf before. But I'm a big fan of links golf. It's unforgiving. You've just got to hit good shots or you'll get punished right away.
